why did Taylor reject to fight Froch the 1st time round?

In the SMW division Europeans have dominated it for some time now with Calzaghe, Ottke, Kessler (yeah I know hes just been beaten), Beyer (3 time WBC champ), Reid, and now Froch and Bute so im surprised Froch was so dismissed and not recognised with a win over the undefeated Pascal at the time as well

like i say bailey, americans dont like to look further than their own country and a lot of it is their tv companies faults, brainwashing the american public into thinking that a taylor v lacy fight is more appealing than froch v taylor.

its the reason that americans were brainwashed into thinking lacy could beat calzaghe and its the same reason why roy jones stopped in america fighting civil servants instead of testing himself against benn, eubank, collins, and calzaghe.

The last two posts have nothing to do with the topic at hand. It's so irrelevant it might as well be about moist towelettes.

Taylor's career was pretty much owned by HBO from the moment he beat Hopkins (if not sooner). Taylor didn't pick his own fights, HBO had a hand in everything. Even though Dibella was interested in Froch/Taylor, it wasn't going to happen unless HBO wanted it. HBO instead wanted Jeff Lacy for some reason even though Lacy's experience on HBO wasn't exactly all that deep. The Lacy fight was almost confirmed to be worth more than a Froch fight so it made sense business wise.

Also at the end of the day, everything played out perfectly. Taylor got to pick up an easy pay day for the Lacy fight, HBO got to burn the final fight of his deal and get out of that god awful contract and Froch got his fight in the end. This is arguably the most beaten to death non issue in the history of boxing.

It was funny though when Froch found out that a belt doesn't always translate into money and respect.

You may well be correct to some degree, but surely HBO would have preffered to see there man Taylor fight for a world title than fight a guy who was soundly beaten and ruined to a degree that he struggled in every fight after? Wouldnt they? Froch was an undefeated world champ

Jeff Lacy threatened to quit if the fight didn't come off and they are very good friends. Both on olympic squads.

Come on. Although you may be right about the American media hyping up guys to sell a fight when others would be better for the sport, do you really think that it applies only to America? Honestly? Do you not see it?

Taylor had skills but really needs a rest. He has been knocked out one too many times.

Froch is a bit of an odd fighter. He managed to beat Pascal, then after that he was pretty lucky to get wins over Taylor and Dirrell. He was losing to Taylor and he looked bad vs Dirrell(who I actually thought should have won, it was ugly but I thought he did more), but it would be hard to look good against Dirrell the way that fight went. He is limited, but he certainly doesnt believe he is nor act like it. He doesnt look pretty, but he still keeps managing to win. If he wins this fight vs Kessler, I think some people , including me, will have to recognize him as a legitimate force in the division, not just an oddball overachiever.
