Why did the British public turn their backs on Audley?

He was a coward. Fought like a coward but talked like a warrior.

It was embarrassing watching him fight most of the time.

Such a waste. So much potential. I expected so much of him after the olympics.

 

Harrison is a nice man, he was a mini national hero after he won Olympic Gold but it went to his head, wanted to do it all himself and very early in his professional career he said things that were just delusional.

There is nothing wrong with having confidence in yourself, even a touch of arrogance but Harrison took it to levels that were hard to stomach because of his style and attitude in the ring.

I do not think most people wish him harm or hate the man but at certain times he was a national embarrassment.

 

Ruined the chances of the BBC committing to boxing.
When I've been in his company, a few times, not a nice person. When I speak with friends who have spent a considerable amount of time in his company none have anything positive to say about him.

Think he did become slightly more humble later in his career when he realised that no one was buying it anymore, and maybe even he realised he'd been delusional!

 

Was harshly treated by the press IMO

Had some good wins in his career, that Sprott KO for example

Very unlucky to be KO'd by that fraud Haye, just got caught with a wild lucky swing.

 

They didn't turn them half quick enough imo.

 

He had the backing and lucrative deal with BBC when he turned over but just didn't produce the goods for a number of reasons and the BBC ended up jacking it in.

Now I don't really care that he basically took a **** load of money from the BBC, as we've since found out a lot about the scumbags they employed, cover ups etc... But Audley getting and essentially ****ing up that opportunity is effectively detrimental to other upcoming fighters of that period. Being shown on terrestrial tv at that time was a huge platform.
