Why did the ref step in when GGG was hurt by body shot in the 8th v Serhiy?

He stepped in when he was unloading on Derev near the end of a round too to call the end of a round early. Just a mistake on that one.

With the body one, the ref's positioning looks like he's about to be in the way a bit, so I guess it was to avoid contact with the fighters, which is a mistake on his part with positioning.

So incompetence for both in a way. He's usually a very good ref. Both guys were robbed of what, maybe 3-4 seconds of having the other guy hurt.

No, after GGG was hurt to the body as the ref stepped between them he parted them with his hands, clearly seperating them.

Looks like he stopped them to move out of the way; he was too close to them. If a ref stops the action they generally do that separation gesture before letting them fight on

exactly, already wrote that in another threat. GGG was moving backwards and stumbled into the ref, who stopped the action because golovkin was trapped between the ref and the opponent in the middle of the ring. The ref was in a wrong position, it was his mistake but I very much doubt he was trying to save Golovkin. Also Derevyanchenko wouldn't have finished him off anyway.

Indeed. He gained a couple of seconds which is a lot in boxing but I'm not sure he would have gone down
