Why did Tito challenge RJJ?

Maybe it's because he loves to fight, but then again, when theres Don King, it's always about the money

Nothing wrong with making money. If he puts in a respectful performance and earns it good for him even if he loses. Stepping between the ropes is no joke. The guys that do it, and perform well during their careers deserve as much $$ as they can get.

Money and he probably sees vulnerability in RJJ. If Tito were to be competitive again, he would try comepeting in the MW or SMW division taking on the top guys there. Obviously he can no longer be competitive because of inactivity and age. If Tito wins and retires after this fight, I would feel ripped off because it would make this fight look like a one time deal. If he wins he should take on the winner of the Calzaghe/Hopkins fight, maybe even Pavlik or Mosley.

 

Why did Tito take this fight? That is a no brainer, it is for the money and "only" for the money.

I'm not sure if the vulnerability in RJJ necessarily played a part.

Tito wanted to fight him years ago back when Roy was at/very close to the top of his game. It might've happened had Bernard not schooled Tito.

 

This guy is a "fighter's" fighter..........Even though he may lose, this guy is a warrior.........

 

Yeah, Trinidad said when he came back against Mayorga that he missed the thrill of fighting, people yelling "Tito" and cheering for him.

 

Nobody takes on RJJ now if it's not for the money period. Who cares? He should care cuz if he gets embarrased by RJJ ( who's not a threat), he's not going to make the money he would be able to in two fights - first in a fight he would have bigger chances at 160 pounds and that Big Money fight afterwards. It doesn't bother me at all that Tito is going for Roy since that was the next fight he wanted when he stepped in MSG to beat Bernard and become undefeated and undisputed middleweight champ - he was in the spotlight there but won two or three rounds and was stopped in the last... Actually you could tell that he loved to get in MSG dancing out in front of his fans back in Sept 2001. What is not definitely dramatic is that Jones went the full 12 rounds with light heavies Prince Badi Ajamu and previously undefeated Anthony Hanshaw and won the latter by scores of 114-113, 117-110, 118-109 in June 07 while Tito lost a 12 round decision by scores of 120-107, 119-108 (twice) as far back as May 2005 and in a 160 pound fight... If Trinidad looks as bad as that ( and as expected), there will be no drama and he will not make any good payday next - all of this leads me to say that maybe, just maybe Trinidad doesn't want to fight anymore afterwards and chose this name to finish his incredible career once and for all.

 

I wonder the same thing. He could have challenged Mosley at 160 and prolly get more or less the same amount.
