Whatever the reason, we all missed out on an awesome fight.

Tyson was in jail when Bowe was on top. Bowe had the syle to beat the Tyson of the 90s.

i would have backed bowe. bowe was one of the true under-rated fighters of our time. wish we had seen him take lewis and tyson on.

If Tyson would have beaten Holyfield and Bowe had defeated Golota more convincingly we could have seen this match.

But I think that 90s Tyson would have beaten Bowe of Andrew Golota match.

    Well said.

He totally dodged Lewis (possibly after his amatuer loss).

I lost a lot of respect for him because of that.

Dumping the WBC belt in the bin was the most obvious symbol of ducking i have ever seen,

Mike Tyson said, Riddick Bowe is the only fighter he would never face. They knew each othe before they even got into boxing, they went to the same school. Also LL Cool J knew Riddick Bowe and for a short time, LL Cool J used to sleep on trains, when he was having some trouble at home. He would sometime's hang out with Riddick Bowe and crossed pathways with a young Mike Tyson..all the the Ghetto.

Bowe wasn't on the radar when Tyson went to prison. By the time he got out Bowe was taking a pounding from Andrew Golota. That was supposed to be a warm up to Tyson for him.

Bowe's best came and went while Mike was locked up.

But Bowe did definitely want to fight Tyson. He was quite enthusiastic about it by the time Tyson was due out of jail.

The original plan was that Bowe would fight Lewis in early '96, then Tyson in late '96 or early '97.

However, Main Events were very keen on pushing Andrew Golota and successfully lobbied HBO to 'jump the gun' on that fight to arrange Bowe vs Golota instead.

    The rest is history...
