Why did UFC 110 reportedly not draw big on PPV?

The ufc is going backwards with most of the legends past it or fighting in strikeforce like fedor and Dan.Ufc 111 will be good though.

There inconsistent. Coleman fought Bonnar and it didnt even get screened. Then in his next fight Coleman (the Geriatric) headlines with Randy Couture????!! Thats reaching at its worst. Dana's out of ideas and he knows it. Before long his product will be exactly like Vince McMahons.

 

Scurla, you seem like a decent enough guy but you need to stop with this revisionist theory. You trash UFC for signing Toney while you praise PRIDE, despite their long history of freak shows and mismatches. Sure every once a while you would get a meeting between two ATGs, but for the most part the cards were filled with top contenders vs. Japanese pro-wrestlers. People tend to forget about the Alexander Otsukas, Yoshihiro Takayamas, and Yuji Nagatas that padded the records of their favorite fighters. Not to mention the Zulus, Giant Silvas, James Thompsons, Bob Sapps, and Dos Caras Juniors they had running around.

 

UFC have been taking the **** with PPV's since UFC 100.

Since 100 there's been one mabye two shows that deserved PPV status. Coture vs Coleman was the nadir.

UFC can't continue to serve up slops as PPV worthy. People will begin to vote with their wallets.

 

PRIDE made no bones about its circus fights. PRIDE was a SHOW and thats exactly what the Japanese aimed to put on. That was their brand and style. On the other hand it was DANA WHITE who said he wouldnt do the circus show acts that PRIDE had and then he reneg's on that and signs guys like Kimbo and Toney. If it was PRIDE id be midly interested because PRIDE made no bones about the shows they put on, their product was superior and had far more depth, plus they put on all time great fights with cards that were stupidly stacked. Revisionist or not the UFC pales in comparison purely because Dana is at the helm. Now give me the old UFC when the Gracies were in charge and im down.

 

This is ridiculous. The UFC of the present destroys PRIDE in terms of depth; especially if you consider WEC the equivalent of Bushido. If PRIDE had the same roster as UFC does today, theyd be wasting our time showcasing them against untrained prowrestlers and freakshows. You need not be so concerned with Dana White, Scurla, the man contradicts himself a lot and so what? He's a promoter, what do you expect? If Kimbo or Toney were in PRIDE they would get matched up with Fedor or Cro Cop IMMEDIATELY so don't act like what Dana is doing is unprecedented or unwarranted.

I'm willing to bet if UFC110 was a PRIDE event you'd be sucking on its nuts right about now.

I've said for more then a year now (not that anyone cares) that UFC will have to back down to less PPV's. There overall quality has been terrible this year. Dana better be telling GSP that he better do more then lay on a guy for 5 rounds. This will be the last decent PPV sell with him as a headliner unless he creates more action. The dude has turned boring as hell.

The more good fights they get on free tv the better for the sport. In the future bars will have to charge for the PPV's or stop carrying them. I was told by a local bar manager (national chain) that they actually do less sales when the fights are on. The tables get full of people that are there for the duration and they can't turn there tables over.

Part of the problem is that people want to see championship fights, with only 5 weight classes they can only do about 10 championship fights a year. They know they can't expand to lower weight classes because average fans don't want to watch little guys fight. Generally the same is true in boxing. (I'd argue many great fights occur at lower weight classes) Of course hardcore fans will watch anything, but there just isn't that may hardcore fans and certainly not enough to support the sport.

There are some changes that will need to be made to the sport as well.
1. the long rounds make for gassed fighters and sloppy matches. Shorter rounds and more of them.
2. The ground game. If a punch isn't thrown within 30 seconds you have to get them on their feet. None of this laying and praying bs. (See GSP) Almost all non hardcore fans don't want to see dudes dry humping each other on the ground.
3. Clarify the scoring. Let us know how the fights are scored.
4. Stop with so many ancient retreads. Only hardcore fans want to see Coleman and afterward they wish they hadn't.
Probably other changes I've never considered.
