Why did Ward use the headbutt against Kessler?

I mean that Ward could beat Kessler without using that dirty tactic. The guy had skills, speed, and youth so he didn't need to use the headbutt to beat Kessler.

    What you think?

I don't think headbutts were the determining factor in the fight. I don't even think all that **** was intentional. It's just part of Ward's style. His boxing is smooth from outside but rough in close. **** happens I guess. I ain't watched that fight in a long time.

That is a perfect description. You should be on Ward's team.

"""Andre Ward, smooth from outright, rough in close""""

That could be a meme like Tyson's ear biting LOL.

However, in Ward's fights after that one, I didn't see that dirty tactic as many as I saw in Ward/Kessler. So, I don't think that Ward is a dirty fighter.

I think it was a clash of styles. Fighters are taught to tuck their chins to avoid getting KOed. The headbutts were just a byproduct of that. People exaggerate the headbutts, but the truth is Kessler just wasn't prepared to defend his title against a boxing conundrum like Ward.

He did fight dirty against Kessler but was still deserved winner.

(shocked at the lack of abuse you have received for these comments)

Every other fight I watch there's "clashes of heads". Even more so when a lefty fights a righty. Ward very frequently fights as a lefty. I think he writes left handed.

Ward Fought southpaw and Kessler has no headmovement and when Ward lunged in equals headbutt.

How many times did Calzaghe and manny suffer cuts because of headbutts. It is what it is

He probably didn't need them that night, but they where a factor as Kessler told his corner, I think after the third or fourth round, that he couldn't see.

Ward fought a very dirty fight and headbutts was part of the tactic. Kessler had no answer and if he had retaliated, say with a blow to the balls, he'd surely be DQ'ed as the referee was the most biased seen since Sven Ottke was active.

To be fair Ward hasn't been as dirty in subsequent fights.
