Why did Wilder duck Povetkin?

He also got on a plane and fled the country

 

This. Povetkin had two chances to fight Wilder and screwed up twice.

 

he ducked him becos Pov was a proven drug cheat, and may still be.

This is not a criticism of DW, in fact its one of the few things he has done right as a titlist.

 

He didn't have a choice though really did he, it went to purse bids to force a fight as they couldn't agree terms and Wilder's only other option was to give up the belt which to be honest was the only thing he had going for him.

 

But then he fought Stiverne and Ortiz, both of who have failed tests. Not really a consistent approach there.

 

Both Stiverne and Ortiz disclosed what they took before being tested while Povetkin both times didn't disclose anything.

 

yeh that underlines his bad side. Hes happy with gatekeeper types. BUt I tihnk Pov was the proven cheater like his sister screamapova, and still denied it, a bit different. They are just slightly evil people really, I cant blame Wilder for not pursuing them further.

Plus if he mentioned drugs, Maria Sharapova might ktfo wildman with her racquet.

 

The WBC gave him an out and he took it. Cant blame the man though cuz Povetkin is dangerous and Wilder isnt very good. The running off in a huff is very very similar to how he is acting right now about the Joshua fight. Shame cuz both Povetkin and Joshua would be a real test for Wilder. Coincidence?

 

Not sure why that changes things, fact is Wilder happily fought 2 known dopers, even fought Ortiz right after his 2nd failed test, yet wanted nothing to do with Povetkin after he failed, was literally on a plane out of there within hours of being informed of the failed test.

Also Povetkin did disclose taking Meldonium when he failed the first time and Ortiz never disclosed his first failed test back in 2014 for Nandrolone.

noone would be suprised, Pov is aproven incessant drug cheat. He makes James Toney look like Mary Whitehouse.

 

That's not the point the OP was making though. OP asked why Wilder ducked but the man signed the contract, you can't do more than that. The mandatory part of this is irrelevant in this particular discussion.
