Johnson didnt knock Willard down?? There was no knockdowns until the last round, and that was Johnson took the fall.

Oh yeah, Johnson may have "Won" thsos first rounds on a boxing tactic, but as far as damage is consider, nothing relly happen, it was mostly circle each other and see who can feit better, Neither Johnson or Willard seem willing to relly go after each other until say the 14th round.

And dont buy that BS of espn classic of Johnson trying to end it in the first round, that was relly round 17 they show, were they started to up the fighting level.

Dont forget he can cure cancer with his finger nails, and can turn back time if he flys around backwards.

Late in his life when down on his luck,Johnson sold a signed confession to Nat Fleischer,Fleischer didnt beleive him ,and neither do I.Johnson ,fat and illtrained did his best until his stamina gave out Willard was too hungry, too strong, and too determined for the fugitive from justice.A post script to this is that a bill has been put forward to give Johnson a full pardon from his conviction for breaking the Mann Act in 1913,better late than never I suppose.

It is all verry well to sneer but this aleged feat was actualy caried out infront of a party of journalists.

You have to consider that it might actualy have taken place.

I stand up for Johnson as much as anybody here but there is not the slightest doubt in my mind that Willard legitimately knocked him out.

It's true he made the statement, but the truth is he got old. And the fight was in the brutal heat and at some point even the greatest fighters get beat. Like someone else pointed out, Johnson started strong, but was fading.

Of course it was the 26th round, and scheduled for 45! Johnson would probably have won a 12 round decision. That's when men were men.

As I understand it those offers were withdrawn due to his prosecution under the mann act.

Whatever the case you might accept my general point that $30 000 was a ballpark figure that would always secure a title shot for the white hope of the moment.

Yes, he lifted that 200 lbs dear for 10 miles at such a pace that the poor journalists couldn't keep up with him. Was this before or after he knocked out a lion with one left hook?

BIG PONTIUS HERE= here in Holland deer weighs at least 400lbs. All of our average athletes can carry a dead one on their shoulder, rifle in one hand, for 10-15 miles with no problem. Maybe it was elk, i don't know. But damnit, we're tough as nails.

If a number of journalists witnes an event around this period, then that is about as reliable a testimony/documentation as you can get without it being filmed.

Are you going to question that he fought Bob Armstrong also?

Thanks Dee. :good I never have and never will, though.

There are entire books as testimony/documentation of a man walking on water, splitting the sea, the entire world magically being flooded and de-flooded while gene pool research excludes it with 100% certainty, etc, etc.

    Does that make it fact?

If you buy those old-school inflated stories of Jeffries carrying a 200lbs deer and rifle for 10 miles at a swift pace, then you're either extremely stupid or extremely gullible with your head so far up the old school fighter's asses that you've lost any clue about the physical reality.
