Why didn’t Liston and Archie Moorer ever fight?

Cuz 45 year old Moore fighting prime Liston was kind of a forgone conclusion

 

Archie was kind of done by the time Liston become a big name on the scene. I considered Moore kind of done after the title fight with Patterson, and he already was pretty past it before then.

 

Why? Liston was probably 45 as well

 

Archie’s mama didn’t raise no fool …

 

Archie was struggling with the likes of Guinaldi Rinaldi by the time Liston rose to prominence. Would have been a disaster for Archie

 

Regardless of the reason for it not happening, it’s a good thing that it didn’t. Not the type of fight Moore needed at that stage

 

Slightly off topic …but they were friends…weren’t they ? I know they both were friends of George Foreman

 

I believe they almost did fight. I forget when. So don’t take this as fact. I could more be thinking of Harold Johnson.

 

Sonny Liston vs Harold Johnson 1956. Harold Johnson pulled out 4 days before the fight and Marty Marshall replaced him. Liston’s first fight back from prison. Would have been a HUGE step up for Liston, and a win over Harold would have looked fantastic on his resume

 

I’m prob thinking of that fight.
