Wlad, being a rabid white liberal, had a weird patronising/development dynamic with Big Joshie along with wanting the world to see how benevolent he was to those of foreign ancestry, making the current Ukrainian nationalism unbelievably ironic if you know anything about what all that entails in a large section of that population. So I think this was a psychological factor actually, as he was just far too content to lose. His idiot brother's advice was probably the key factor though. Let's take a moment to confirm what an imbecile Vitali actually is. Both AJ AND Wlad had issues with gassing, but Wlad had literally been stopped because of it TWICE. So even if they are the same age, you don't count on Wlad playing that game with AJ because he never had the engine of Tyson Fury, did he? But when Wlad is over forty and AJ is in his twenties, you have to be a stupendous idiot to think Wlad should try to wait out AJ in that fight. On top of that, Wlad was not getting any close decision. It's obvious he had to go for the stoppage.
In hindsight its easy to say he should have stepped on the gas buy it also could have backfired and we would be contemplating why he rushed him like AJ did Ruiz. Wlad fought admirable for a change though. He redeened himself in a loss and won respect.
5 wins in the previous 4 years. And his 17 month period of inactivity was caused my fury messing him about over the rematch. Then fury got popped for deca and the AJ fight was the natural fight for wlad to take. Who else in the top 10 would've beaten him except for perhaps wilder landing a lucky shot?
You're making a mystery out of nothing He listened to Vitalis plan. Thats why he let aj off the hook. Just because he has ignored Vitali before doesn't mean Wlad ignored Vitali every time he gave him advice for a fight.
Maybe because Wlad was slapped around for the first 5 rounds and knocked down also. You're acting that being on the end of a one sided beat down for almost 5 full rounds and being knocked down wouldn't cause him difficulties later in the fight?
I was going to say the same thing, turned out to be one of Wlad's most action packed drama filled fights, to go out like that was great for him & kind of redeeming after that horrible Fury fight.
It was so close & in his grasp, i also found it odd he never re matched him though you can tell he likes & respects AJ enough to just let it be.
after he dropped AJ he threw about four leaping left hooks which barely missed. then he had to slow down because he was 41 years old
Wlad tried to finish him as best he could for the remainder of round 6 and for round 7. The problem is that Joshua was still dangerous, Wlad was missing almost every left hook he threw, and he couldn’t line up another right hand. It didn’t look like it was going to happen, so he switched tactics to let AJ tire more and finish him late. Without the benefit of hindsight, it was an excellent plan
