Why didn't Ali hit Frazier in this clip?

Because for Ali, it was more gamesmanship than anything; for Frazier it was as real as blood, but to Ali it was all just mind games and publicity.

I think once Ali saw Frazier standing over him, he must have thought "oh ****," and figured this was probably the best way to diffuse the situation without losing face.

 

Ali made Joe mad so Joe stands up ready to throw some bareknuckle hooks,ali's brother walks over(don't know why maybe he thought he was tough or something) stands beside joe and joe replies "you want some(in this) to?" hahaha then they take him down safely without catching a left to the head.

 

Ali saw that Frazier was seriously pissed off and knew that Frazier was about to hit him, so when Frazier was distracted he jumped up and grabbed him knowing that it would be quickly broken up. Smart move on Ali's part because Frazier would destroy him in a fight outside of the ring.

 

It wasnt like Ali to throw fists in public like that. He knew too many kids were looking up to him.

He did the right thing my bringing him to the ground to diffuse the situation.

And his brother walked into it, because, well, thats his brother. If my brother is being threatened, Im not gonna stand around to watch, thats for sure.


edit: Is Joe asking "Why are you picking on me?". He was just not on the same mental plane as Ali. Joe is one of my boxing heros, but man he just really let Ali get under his skin, didn't he?

I think Ali just saw the chance for some publicity. Although Joe didn't like him Ali knew he wouldn't punch him on live tv. If the other guy hadn't come over Joe probably would of just sat back down.
