I've always wondered this it would have surely been a megafight in Canada both were at 168 and it should have happened it would have been a great fight. Why didn't this fight happen?
Pascal has grown a lot. He wasn't anything worth paying attention to prior to the Froch fight. He was fighting on ESPN trying to build into a fight with Miranda and almost got KTFO doing so. If this fight ever occurs it surely was one worth the wait.
Again, who was Pascal at 168?How much(if at all) did people know about him before he fought Froch? Pascal was no big name ever at 168,he was a prospect/borderline top 10 fighter. He ain't a big name now,he had 6000 people for his fight with Branco. Bute had 13000 when he fought another old shot fighter in Joppy. Figure in risk/reward and you see why.
Maybe but he was still one of the best that Canada had to offer. The fight should have taken place it would have been huge. Joppy was a shot fighter when he fought Bute Pascal could have filled in nicely for that fight IMO.
Both definitely now have established names in the boxing community. If it happens, I would expect it to happen in Montreal, and I plan to be there. That'd be a Canadian superfight for sure.
He was no more shot than Branco. Besides when Bute fought Joppy Pascal just fought Pittman(in a poor performance) in a build-up towards a Miranda fight that didn't happen. Why?Because HBO rejected it thinking Pascal will be blown away. Bute fightinf and beating him then would have meant little.
That's because "GYM'', which is Pascal's promoter never would have risked such a fight right away... That promotional company is doing OK but they are not solid enough and they certainly didn't want to risk fighting Bute right away.. They wanted Pascal to get a belt first and then they would cash in on it a little before considering such a fight. Bute-Pascal will happen down the road, it's written in the stars ! It was a matter of high risk and immediate short term reward before Pascal had a belt. That wasn't interesting for them til' now.. Now that HBO are interested in Bute, that fight will not take place soon either..unless Pascal would make a big name for himself by beating a guy like Chad Dawson.. Give it another 18 months and you'll hear about it...
they started 2 years apart and Bute was always a step ahead of Pascal both in terms of skills and drawing power. Risk/Reward and where they were in terms of their development as fighters means that it was never a good idea for them to fight. Also, they fight for rival promoters and are each their promoter's #1 cash cow. Anyways, these guys were always being developed to go get US$$$ A local fight would have made good money back then but thats short term thinking. The plan for their respective promoters was always to get them on HBO and Showtime. Now if you compare the purses they are getting to how much they would have made fighting each other, its on another level.
