Why didnt Calzaghe renew his visa when Tarver, Pavlik came onto the scene?

not if Larry Holmes showboats rudely against a shotto**** legend who could barely swing a glove at him, but readily admits he wouldnt go near him when he was prime.

oh sorry, it wasnt Larry Holmes who was a twat enough to do that. It was that other ahem ...Welsh guy. Not Calzaghe....BAILEY..... NOT CALZAGHE!!! DOWN BOY!!

yeah but why fight just the oldies?

not why stop entirely. I think the reason was simply age and wanting to avoid the loss he'd get at LH, which wasnt a good weight for him.

not everyone wants to retire a vegetable or with a tarnished legacy like roy jones

i remember people at the time sayin he was ducking the young undefeated pavlik

    now that notion is laughable

Actually no, I just call it how I see it. I don't think joe (in the twilight of his career) could handle pavliks power. I have no doubt the version that beat Kessler beats Pavlik though.

Bailey always makes me laugh, joe beat jones which means automatically he beats tarver, styles make fights ydksab outside of calzaghe. Although I do think he beats tarver. That's a terrible way to describe a fight.

Dawson who lost to Pascal and looked lucky against Johnson .
Yeah I bet Calzaghe was worried sick :patsch

Great thing though is that all wins and losses go back to undefeated Calzaghe ie -

Dawson lost to Pascal who lost to Froch who lost to Kessler who lost to Calzaghe

    Hopkins lost to Calzaghe

Tarver lost to Hopkins who lost Calzaghe

    Jones lost to Calzaghe

Toney lost to Jones who lost to Calzaghe

Just look at the current LHW and SMW Ring ratings

    LHW
    C. Dawson goes back to undefeated Calzaghe
    1. Hopkins goes back to undefeated Calzaghe
    2. Pascal goes back to undefeated Calzaghe

    SMW
    1. Froch goes back to undefeated Calzaghe
    2. Steiglitz goes back to undefeated Calzaghe
    3. Bute goes back to undefeated Calzaghe

To think Calzaghe has been retired all of this time yet still hangs over these divisions

no bailey its just YOU hanging about thats amusing.

he uses it because sincehis fighter is unbeaten through cherrypicking and fighting shotto**** legends, then he thinks he can claim Calzaghe is capable of winning RJJ's HW title, Toneys CW and HW title, Jones's Olympic 'gold' medal, can defend the MW title 20 times like Bhop etc etc.

    Hes like that.

In Baileyworld, Trevor Berbick would be the greatest HW of alltime for issuing a beatdown to Muhammed Ali, as long as it puts Calzaghe in a good light.

Calzaghe should have squeezed in Pavlik before he retired because there was lots of noise being made about that fight but Calzaghe just wasn't up for it but if he did fight Pavlik he's have schooled him and got all the credit that Hopkins managed to take himself.

Pavlik was 2 divisions lower. total mismatch.
I wouldnt want to see Sturm, Martinez, Golovkin etc fighting even a less talented LHW in say Cloud.
Point proven in that Pavlik thought he could compete and got completely schooled by a Calzaghe cast off. Pavliks team felt Hopkins was there for the taking due to how Calzaghe made him look

calzaghe himself admitted he was slipping

he wasnt the same fighter of 5-10 years previous

he left with some good money, undefeated and without getting himself hurt

id say he did pretty well relatively speaking

Calzaghe got what he wanted, recognition and money.

With the money Calzaghe can sniff cocaine on the regular basis and party while being financially secured.

With the recognition Calzaghe could have got big names of USA (BHop II, Pavlik, Dawson, Pascal, Froch, Ward, Bute, Cloud, Tarver, Glen Johnson........) to come over to Cardiff, but rather Calzaghe used the new found recognition to go dance and have fun on TV.

Pavlik? Are you ****ing kidding me? Calzaghe beat Lacy, but that doesn't mean his was his duty to expose every HBO hype job out there.

He was finished by the Hopkins fight, it just shows how good he is that he beat Hopkins so far away from his prime. Age doesn't come into cause Hopkins showed that he had plenty left after losing to Joe when he beat Pavlik and Pascal.

Well he only fought Hopkins and Jones because he deemed them old enough to be beatable. He never tried to fight any of the young bucks because he would rather ride the white rhino into retirement then get beat down by one of the young bucks like Dawson.
