Why didnt Calzaghe renew his visa when Tarver, Pavlik came onto the scene?

    I agree.
Pavlik was seen as a monster back then but the Hopkins loss made people rethink the outcome of a Calzaghe-Pavlik fight.

I can't see how Wareen can be blamed for Calzaghe's career. Calzaghe at the end of the day had the final say on who he fought.

yes, Calzaghe did tend to fear and hide from opponents. Perhaps he nuderestimated himself a bit though, I dont think 35 year old JC would lose to a young Pavlik, but add three years to that fight schedule and older JC might well lose to prime Pav.

According to Wareen, Calzaghe didnt really believe in himself so he tended to make up fake injuries to get out of fights. He tried to pull out of the Lacy fight, but Wareen told him that his career would be finished if he pulled out.

it would explain why he picked so many **** ones for a decade, a fear of losing his zero losses and losing his one claim to not being just another Joe.

That zero loss is what his career banks on, it certinaly aint built on fighting any ATGs or other HOFers in their primes or near primes. Take away that and hes just another Joe.

Makes sense, if you got something precious, protect it.

It's not hard to go undefeated if you are only facing guys you know you can beat. The fact that he struggled with the likes of Reid and Starie would suggest that he would pick up a loss if he stepped up the level of comp he was facing
But it comes with a price because he doesnt have much of a legacy and it is why he now blames Wareen, claiming he held him back

without a doubt, but he would be more respected.

He made a bad call in picking middling opponents for so long.

Or for picking amazing olympians, HOFers and primeATGs, in Baileyspeak.

True, but that is only if he could cope with a loss, Naseem Hamed couldn't.

You dont class super veit as a great win?:D

It's incredible how much attention and debate Calzaghe still demands.

Anyway, shouldn't these threads be in the Classic forum?

his superhero name should be SuperVeit: Intercontinental Man.

I would suggest he was the failed German genetic experiment that was later perfected with that shining example of Aryan supremacy Sven Ottke. Well his bald head was very shiny anyway.

Or perhaps hes the failed mini-twin, Danny Devito style, that came out when Vitali Klitman got cloned by the Germans.
