I know Margo was there to be hit all night but holly **** did I underrate his chin, Margo took some seriously hard shots and he wasn't even phased once. What if Cotto had gone to the body more? Would Margo still been as strong as he was at the end of the fight? It is pretty obvious the only way you could KO him is with a sledge hammer so why try?So what do you think, did Cotto neglecting to go to Margo's body cost him the fight or do you think the outcome would have been the same either way?It is obviously hard to say but It definately would not have hurt his chances IMO.
Because Margarito keeps his elbows close to his ribs. It's not so easy. And if you think about focusing on his body you have to be ready to eat those uppercuts. He isn't the first big man in history to know how to handle smaller men but what he does is devastating. He intentionally gives them the headshots knowing full well he can take them. And he punishes them from the outside with his long bodyshots and uppercuts and right hands as they try to escape.
Margarito was protecting his body with his elbows like Winky Wright does. If Cotto worked the body, he would have also being exposed to Margarito`s upper cuts.
because margos face was open to be hit all night, if you were fighting a guy with his face open for shots wouldn't you hit him there?
because cotto fought off his back foot the whole fight and could never square his feet to tee off on margo's body at all
all of the above posters are correct...i assume during the middle of the fight when margo got hit by cotto in the head and knowing that it doesn't hurt him. He sacrificed the head
