Because Margarito was doing all of the pressuring and besides that he could not bully the bully, If cotto did not have his track shoes on he would have been out of there earlier

Because Cotto saw what happened to Cintron when you try to man up and go toe to toe it cuts off your fight life by 5 rounds If Cotto tried to bring the fight to Tony he would be gone by the 6th maybe the 5th

Because in order to do that he would have to get Margarito's respect at some point. He never did.

If he continues to sit down on punches and throw more and more he is playing right into Margarito's hands. And the fight would have ended much sooner.

I thought Cotto might do ok inside of Margarito's long arms but Margarito didn't fall in. And well, Cotto had no choice but to throw upstairs and move as much as possible.

That is true, He should have boxed clever like he was doing in the early rounds.

Margarito's uppercut would have neutralized the clinching attempts.

Because Margo was stronger. Cotto would have being KO earlier if he put
    pressure on margo.

Exactly. It might have bought him some time but Margarito does a good job of keeping his elbows inside so you have to throw your arms around him to tie up. Cotto did it sparringly but those uppercuts hurt.

No it wouldnt have. Just punching isnt going to stop someone from clinching.

He wouldnt have been hit with has much uppercuts if he had clinched when there was no where to go. The reason he ate so many shots was because he had no where to go, especially when he was tired. Clinching would have bought him some time and slowed the pace. But what does cotto do instead? trade and waste more energy and eat more leather.

First of all as a "former" Margarito "hater" he has earned my respect last night. Tremendous will and win for him, Congratulations..

That said the reason why Cotto didn't do that amongst not throw body punches (mind you, I thought Cotto fought a TREMENDOUS fight last night) is that Cotto sits down on his shots and when you sit down on your shots you have to remain stationary along with exposing yourself. Cotto felt Marg's power earlier and figured that he saw other openings.

Mind you what Cotto was landing on Marg would have put 90% of most fighters down or had them stop coming forward.
