Why didn't Deontay Wilder go for body shots against Tyson Fury on December 1st?

We just witnessed how important body punching can be when a powerful heavyweight bangs to the body in the AJ v Ruiz bout, why didn`t Wilder go to Fury`s body since his head wa so hard to hit?

That would take some boxing skill.

Simply not a part of his arsenal. And not just him, less and less fighters do it today.

Boxing is not only about loading up and hitting a target wilder has not got a boxing brain he is incapable of thinking in the ring.

The only thing Wilder knows to do is see a figure in front of him and try to stalk it and load up a right hand and try to hit it he doesn't know anything about setting shots up hitting the body etc he will just keep trying to hit the target again and again until he hits it.

Fury at his worst schooled wilder.

Maybe he will have this strategy in the rematch.

Just goes to show how many didn't actually watch the fight properly, because he did target the body with jabs in the earlier rounds but then kept going back to head hunting.

I think nerves that he would have payed against the defensive Fury.. Same reason GGG abandoned his body shot approach against Canelo.. When they prepare for a fighter with elite boxing skills they psych themselves out trying to not get counterpunched.. Same thing Wlad did against Fury he was very gunshy and allowed Fury to psych him out mentally

I agree the importance of body work but that was much easier for Andy Ruiz who is 6’1 at most vs 6’6 AJ.. That’s part of the reason I believe Ruiz would beat AJ again unless he improves his defense to shield that against shorter opponents..

In 40 odd fights has he ever stopped someone with a body shot? Or even tried to?

He tried a jab at Breazale`s body, but missed by quite a bit.

I guess wilder won’t do this for the rematch and will put on a boxing clinic :ciappa:
