Maidana covered his body up is my guess, I thought it was stupid as well he should have keep going at it, I was more surprised that roach didnt tell him that.

khan isnt a body puncher so didnt know how to work it while maidanas awareness was heightened so khan just went back to his combos

Body Punching = increased chance of getting caught with a good punch, as your gloves are down and you need to be on the inside, two situations where Amir Khan needs to improve, and Roach knows this.

Most likely Roach's words to Khan were: "You got the knockdown, now keep your distance and fight him on the outside"

He went to the body but it he just wasn't hook happy. He may have worried about getting caught in close I suppose and we don't know what his intstructions were from the corner.

    Now that's not fair.

He's a smart fighter, he's just nowhere near as smart as the man in your avatar :p

I think he threw a few body punches when he was doing his combinations, just not specifically targeting that area.

Maybe. But in an interview after the fight he said that he didn't go to the body too much as it leaves him open to a counter to the head. So maybe you don't give him enough credit?

If you know you've been hurt to the body, you have to expect your opponent to come after the body even more, meaning you can better anticipate their body shots and counter then more effectively. Might have been a smart decision by Khan/Roach.

It was an amazing shot!! It does show Khan is packing power as well as speed!! He just need to box smarter i have a feeling roach was crapping his self from the 10th onwards i kinda understand khan wanting to make a statemant but it has shown alot of weaknesses! in the paulie fight he looked great!

I think he tasted Maidana's power in R2 or R3 and rather didn't take the chance. He did go for the body occasionally but Maidana seemed to defend better plus Khan was very successful to the head, so probably thought why change it?

IMO that body punch in the 1st was a glimpse of the future, but he's not yet a confident body puncher (or a puncher at all) and might take a couple of fights to work that shot and the power behind it on a regular basis.
