I've heard a lot of excuses lately, but what was the official reason why Khan didn't try to avenge his humiliating KO loss to Prescott? Thoughts?
Then: Because there was a chance he'd lose again and it would ruin his career Now: the fight is worth nothing.
Khan shouldn't have even fought Prescott at that period in his career. He should have been coddled like Brook and moved up to 140. but hey that loss triggered a turn of events that helped progress Khan's career. Then Bradley moving to 147 and not unifying 140 against Khan again triggered events in the opposite direction - Although PEDs & cheating partially helped that path...again in a weird way a good thing as Khan's mentality towards boxing was horrific...basically just resting on his laurels...however I think that turn came too late... Think about this for a second: Has any opponent Khan beat under Virgil Hunter been an opponent he couldn't have beat under Roach?...no... Alexander would have got sonned just in the same manner at 140 against Khan. He looked horrifically bad against Algieri...and Spence's victory cemented the fact Khan isn't a true Welter despite having the body mass.
Alexander just lost to a journeyman, he didn't beat Algieri as convincing as Pac or Spence. Khan's level of competition since he teamed with Hunter has been downright embarrassing, there is no way of knowing if he has improved with Hunter or not.
Hunter has him too stationary and thinking to much he was getting hit with right hands while he was deciding what punch to throw. I hope the tactics are right tonight
The first point is true, but I can't agree with the second. He will be avenging a devastating loss and that will always keep a rematch worth a lot. People will also easily tune in for this one considering what happened in the first fight. The same can be said about a rematch with Garcia but that didn't happen either because of the same reasons here and a load of lies from Khan and his team.
Only absolute morons would believe in this Virgil Hunter/new trainer nonsense. As soon as Khan loses he's blaming weight and trainer again to continue the parade.
Prescott vs Canelo @ 149.8 for the Lineal "One lbs Closer To Middleweight" Middleweight title. Winner is mandatory for Gennady Golovkin, which he will agree to step aside for a voluntary defense against Paulie Malignaggi.
Prescott was all wrong for Khan, power, long looping punches and he looked like he had zero fear of Khan from the second the bell rang. I don't think Khan believed himself he would beat Prescott in a rematch that's why it never happened.
:deal It's really a shame too. Prescott went on to have a pedestrian career and went on to have bouts against dubious opponents. On the other hand, the guy who got knocked out in 30 seconds went on to have much bigger paydays and chances. The sport of boxing..
