I noticed his jab was not existant against Tyson. And he didn't use his strenght to make some damage on the clinches.

Buster Douglas, on the other hand, moved more and jabbed more, and KOed Tyson.

He was overwhelmed, My guess would be is Larry thought nothing of the "Tyson hype" & figured **** this NKOTB "I'm the man".

But he was in with a rabid PitBull.

larry used a power jab, and thats all well and good when your landing on a slow moving/stationary target but to land a power jab you have to take a step towards your oponent, and when you miss your a step closer/off balance and wide open to take a punch, larry would of had a hell of a lot of trouble with tyson regardless of his age, a jabber who moves backwards would be better, like pinklon thomas for the first few rounds and buster douglas, the power jab guys are at a disadvantage against tyson.

Tyson also had a very good jab during his prime years.
(Only thing is his jab set-up bombs)

    Very interesting.

I was just curious after watching Holmes, an ATG jabber, not using his jab against Tyson. Guess the power jab was not working at all agaisnt Mike.

its not a "why did douglas make him eat jabs and holmes couldnt thing"

when tyson fought Holmes he was in the midst somewhere of having 6 heavyweight title fights in 12 months (unheard of) and he was a guy when saying i want to fight ever 2 months, it wasnt BS, he meant it. he was still into boxing and HUNGRY with holmes. tyson was bored to **** by tokyo, half ass training, ****ing all the Japanese women , letting his buddies train him and manage him. (what a joke john horn and halloway were :rofl) and they simply told tyson how bad ass he was every minute of every day and kissed his ass. oh yeah, having made over 100 million by 23 years old and 8 title fights and 38-0 he lost some of that hunger

In his prime, Mike's head movement was too good, he was too fast, and too explosive for anyone to find success with their jab... Holmes or not. Watch Tyson's early fights, most of his success come from counter combo's off his opponents jab.

You can't judge the Buster Douglas fight... Tyson was completely shot to **** in that fight... no one in their right mind would use that fight as a gauge of Mike Tyson.

Because Tyson cracked Holmes's head with the first punch

it would never work, a more of a range finder/flicker jab is the only weapon. any punch when moving forwar is bad against a counter/power puncher, a punch moving backwards it doesnt matter if it doesnt hit because your always on your bike out of range.

the fact holmes was shot to ****, his reflexes were at a peak during and up to the fraizer fight, after then they were declining, and tysons reflexes would have been at an all time high 6 fights in 12 months against some decent guys,

think of it like the froch-bute fight froch's reflexes were so far above butes thats why he caught him and hurt him so much, tysons style was based on relfexes, and thats why when he stopped training and fighting so often he looked bad and got beat, it just so happens relfexes are very very hard to train for.

even if they were both in there prime, holmes did this that would have been very bad fighting a guy with tysons style.

    This.
In his prime Tyson was able to time the jab with movements to get inside and counter-offensive very well!
The myth that you only needed a jab to defeat a prime Tyson (or just stand up to him) is greatly over exaggerated. If this really was the case, then the kid never would have gone 37-0 with 10 titlefights before suffering his first loss.

The fact is he let his skills erode to that state.

Larry was out of boxing for about 2 years when he fought Tyson and if I remember correctly he only had 6 weeks to train for the fight. In their primes it would have been a much more competitive fight and I think Holmes might have won.
