It's simple Lennox Lewis was expecting to fight Mike Tyson after beating Ray Mercer, the fight fell through which i'm not gonna go into it. But Mercer during this time fought an old Tim Witherspoon, and won a highly controversial decision which many thought he lost. Then after that Mercer just wasn't active he didn't fight again for almost 2 years, and overall had only 6 fights in 6 years and fell off the map. So there wasn't any call for a rematch at that point, had Mercer been active and put together a string of impressive performances we might of seen a rematch.

Lewis had a score to settle with cry baby McCall after the Mercer fight. I believe Ray went on a lil hiatus afterwards

Why would it warrant a rematch? It was not for a title. Every competitive fight does not warrant a rematch............just because

There was an abundance of bigger & less risky fights for him at the time and although mercer was in good shape, was at the back-end of his career. I personally had the fight 6-4 for Lewis, it was a good fight and close could have gone either way. The scoring was fair had Mercer rallied late he'd have won so no controversy.

Close fight that warranted a rematch.
