Why didn't Manny fight Algeri at 140 where he is undefeated?

Why not fight him at the weight he was champion at and got his best win?

Probably because Algieri is bigger than Pacquiao and wanted the fight to be at a higher weight for an advantage.

because they were transitioning Pacquiao out of welterweight for good and into the lower divisions for the rest of his career. However, they weren't sure how he'd perform at 140 after being at welterweight for so long, so they decided to put him at 144 first and if he performed well, then he'd go down to 140 and never go back to welterweight.

Welp, Pacquiao performed well so they would have gone all the way down, but then, thankfully, Mayweather finally came to the table, so they are now staying at welterweight.

because Pac's the A Side and Algieri did nothing special at 140 aside from eeking out a victory over Provo

it's not like he was a well established champ with a lineal title at 140

in that case it would have been disrespectful and perhaps a coward act from Pac to not face him at that weight

i doubt even Duckweather would have done something like that .oh wait!

Pacquiao would have been more dangerous for Algieri at 140 instead of 144.

A lot of y'all are just making up answers based on your own opinions, which isn't bad. Feel free to speculate, but what I wrote is literally the camps explanation to why Pac did it.

Which makes sense. Pacquiao is a natural Lightweight. So it's not surprising that he would like to move back down.

it was a less risky option for Algieri. He would keep his JWW belt even if he lost from Pac (before WBO ruled otherwise).
Remember that Algieri didn't agree the fight initially, he was worried for his health

It's either because Algieri's team said they'd actually rather fight at a catch. Or Pacquiao is the 2nd best P4P fighter and draw in the sport, and doesn't have to move weightclasses for anyone. Or both are true. I think both are true :yep

Oh ****. I forgot about all this. Yeah, this is why. :good

Not that I believed they were really heading down to 147 for good though. I think it was a negotiating tactic for the coming mayweather fight. To show they have more options :deal Any of the 140 pounders would come to WW to fight Pac anyway.

Algeri in an interview mentioned that fighting above 140 is to Algeri's advantage because Algeri is the bigger man.
