Why didn't Mosley jab more against Mayweather?

Castillo was able to do despite being less skillful than Mosley. Hatton had his moments too.

    Mosley fought the wrong strategy.

He did a lot of clinching against Margarito because obviously Margarito is a big fella and easier to do. But Gayweather is not as mobile as he was when he foght Castillo. Wiser maybe. It does not matter if it is the Philly shell - clinching works.

The best thing that Mosley would have done is made the fight ugly to watch. He tried to be a slick fighter agaisnt a slick younger fighter. It would never work. I started a thread about this topic before the fight and the only way I see Mosley winning it is making the fight very very ugly to watch - lots of clinching, elbowing, pushing, pinning on the rope. Unfortunately, Mosley does not fight like that.

Any other way of fighting is futile. He is old and good for a few rounds. Clinching makes both of them tire, especially the smaller guy.

I'll answer seriously not everyone has a good jab for whatever reason, technique or practise or whatever! Many boxers are incomplete if you have ever been in a gym for any length of time you will know people lean towards certain shots they do well and often due to laziness dont practise enough to correct their weaknesses and even if they do when they get punched in the face a few times it isnt second nature so they revert back to what they know best.

I had a good right hook but basically no left hook whatsoever and it took me a good 8 months to hook with my left with any power.

People who tend to have a good jab use it as it opens alot of doors in a fight not to mention scores easy points!

hard to jab when a guy is faster and landing at will with his counters. I do think Mosley will hit Pacman more than he did Mayweather, but still Pacman has fast hands and will be landing and this fight will look a lot like Cotto only Pacman will hurt Mosley in the late rounds.

You are right about a few things BUT its not that he fought the wrong strategy so much as Floyd is the better fighter, no matter what strategy Mosely used Floyd would adjust. Mosely has never been known for ad******g well during a fight!

He didnt try to be slick, if he was trying to be slick he would have been trying to use the jab alot more and maybe even counter Floyds counters He was looking for an opening to land bombs, pitty patter jabs and then looking to wind up with his right! Listen to what Nazim said to him in between rounds!

He knew he couldnt fight on the inside he was already get beaten to the punch everytime they broke from a clinch so fighting on the inside or mauling would have been terrible for him. To be honest he didnt have many options unfortunately!

STFU *******. How did he do it? Volume and a hand injury to FMJ. Rematch? Exactly as it should have been.

Mosley doesn't have the style, skill, or wits to beat a Pure Boxer. Never has. Less chance now and he couldn't do it in his prime. Strategy would not have saved him.

WRONG. He did a lot of clinching against Margarito because Margo has no defense, ramps up punching, and doesn't counter. He landed his shots, never let Margo get going by clinching, and rested. Clinching doesn't work against a fast counter puncher *******. If your hands are reaching out to grab him your face is getting plastered. Timing, power, or volume. Those were his only hopes.

STFU. You don't know anything about Mosley's strengths or Boxing in general. He never tried to be slick. He tried to do what he always does. Paw, fire a bomb, then start those pistons firing. If he made the fight "ugly" he would have muffled his power and been eating short stiff shots all day. Not even counting losing points for fouls and looking like general crap.

******* this is not a Pac thread. You are exposed. :deal

Mayweather: "In the fight I was talking to him. Telling him his jab isn't
fast enough and it is, show it to me. So he would throw the jab and I would pull a counter over it."

Mayweather: " I kept telling him, "Stop holding. Let's give the fans what they want to see.""

    ouch!

and to reply to the TS...Mosley has never had a jab, so yeah you picked a bad example to question why more boxer's don't use the jab.

Mayweather kept countering over the top. No matter how bad you say the jab was working, countering it consistently can make a guy gun-shy.

Also, with Mayweather's feints, Mosley had to keep resetting himself, putting him out of position to throw his jab.

EDIT: And as others have said, which is quite obvious, Mosley has NO jab. A pawing jab is NO good against Mayweather, who likes to counter over the top with short, fast right hands.

Best way to deal with a counterpuncher is a combination of overwhelming volume, punch variety, and liberal, clever feinting.

Mosley was capable of maybe one of these three things.

He also had the reach advantage but lets be real, mosley could never beat PBF off the back foot and it was only a matter of time before PBF locked in on his range.

If you double jab, the pull counter doesn't work that well. You can't teach a guy how to box in 2 fights.

    Mosley was just outclassed.

Castillo had the most success staying on floyds chest finding his body instead of his head. Mosley said hed jab floyd to the body and give him a piece of his own medicine since floyd likes to jab to the body too. The plan worked because mosley had the speed and power but he didn't have a plan b. Mosley looked his age had it been a prime mosley he knocks floyd back to michigan.
