How did he look against Nunn who was world class ? I mean are you saying every boxer looks great every time ?
Toney was losing to Nunn and being outboxed before he finally caught up with him. Toney wasnt looking good for the early part. Nunn was a talented boxer who like Hopkins was often fighting naturally smaller fighters and like Hopkins wasnt the same with talented fighters his own size. How did Toney look against Thadzi?
You know how it ended, but if thats all you look at in a fight, I dont think you can really get the full idea. We know Lewis lost by KO to Rahman, yet Lewis had dominated the fight until that point, or Chavez when he KOd Taylor had been dominated for lots of the fight before the end. If all you do is Boxrec the result then you wont gage an idea. But if all you need to know is the end of the fight and KO, you were probably one of the people that thought Abraham would do well in the S6 and KO Froch
It was an earth shattering performance. But I dont think too many felt he won that when he didnt get the decision
Benn-Hagler would have been a dream fight, except Hagler would really have been too old, by the time he was ready to go up a division. Benn's style was all massive-aggression, which is dangerous for an aging fighter. It's a shame they couldn't have both met in their primes, but what can you do? FWIW, it would likely have been a war, but only an idiot would have bet on Benn, even in his prime. Hagler's defense was too good.
That is not the worst, why did Roy gave an interview live in pensacola for the rematch Griffin-Toney expecting Toney to rematch with him ( even though James lost his mind putting death threats to the former manager and a Lady, fired long time trainer) and got robbed again but thistime big time against Griffin and MR RJJ said he not only would never meet Montell like he had for choice numba one Virgil Hill who was holding two titles that he won against Maske but lost by UD fair and wide to Dariusz Michalczewski? Why didn't Jones go for the same against Dariusz?
There was a youtube hbo video a while ago of Jones in the ring before a fight with Brannon....He expressed his frustration of not being able to get a good super middleweight fight.. hinted at wanting to move up in weight... One of the names he called was Nigel Benn.. if i am not mistaken.
Roy Jones didn't like taking risks, Benn was a real puncher, and the type of fighter unpredictable enough to have a chance of getting through. People say Benn would lose but plenty of upsets happen in boxing and Benn beating Jones wouldn't be a huge upset in the scheme or things
