i think they both held titles about the same time,if they did fight who do u think would have prevailed i dont know much about vasquez other then him beating a young winky wright early in his career and then getting schooled by pea later on in his career, they say vasquez had good power, but norris also had freightening power at 154

Because Vasquez would have drilled him through the canvas. What Troy Waters could almost do, JC could do in spades. Vasquez remains an incredibly underrated fighter.

what was so good about vasquez? he beat a green rolad wright besides that there isnt much on his record that would suggest he'd take apart norris as u claim. and if he was such a hot shot fighter why did whitaker beat him so decisively?

it was prolly leading to it. but norris lost to brown and JCV lost to pernell not long after.

from the archiving interweb it was rosi that both men seem to want. he had been in good company had fought in the states and had been in the limelight more. both norris and vaszquez were great local celebs but rosi had been in the bigger fights. until norris beat leonard...seriously no one knew who he was until he beat suger decisivly. vaszquez could only get a fight in europe and argentina.

Vasquez, before the Whitaker fight, really went 54-0. The DQ loss against Verno Phillips was because Vasquez's manager entered the ring to argue with the referee because he thought Phillips hit his fighter after the bell, as I seem to recall. Vasquez was winning the fight before the DQ happened.

Vasquez also has a very good resume. Castillejo, Aaron Davis, Wright, Carl Daniels, and some other good fighters during his two reigns.

Whitaker didn't beat him decisively at all I might add. In fact, I would probably say it's Whitaker's toughest fight. Vasquez was going neck and neck with Sweet Pea, until the final rounds, with two point deductions from Vasquez helping Pernell. The judges cards are a joke. Whitaker won the fight, but by about three, four points at most.

I had the fight for Vasquez. The deductions were more bs. Vasquez was definitely the boss for the first 9 or 10 rounds.

    Good post.

In between Norris getting KO'ed and D'Qed and Vasquez losing to Whitaker, there was no perfect time for the fight to happen.

Vasquez's strength would definitely have worried Norris, but Terry's power would have been an issue for Vasquez too. It would have been close to a 50-50 fight imo, maybe I'd make Norris a slight favourite.

norris gave daniels his first loss before vasquez and terry norrises resume is much stronger IMO, beating the likes of mugabi,Leonnard, curry, castro, vaden, quincy taylor, blocker and daniels, i think his win against castro speaks for itself considering what castro went on to do later at middleweight

Your right, Norris' resume is stronger. However, this isn't about resume, at least I think it isn't. This is about a head to head match up. If JCV could give Whitaker so many problems, it really is a toss up as to who would win. Whitaker's style is ten times harder to fight against than Norris' is too by the way. He wouldn't have to look for Terry, like he did for Pernell. Vasquez beat fighters similar to Norris too, although oviously inferior.

The fact that Daniels lost to Norris before Vasquez confuses me as to why you brought it up. Yeah he lost to Norris first, but you could say he was relatively untested then, especially compared to when he fought Vasquez, when he was WBA champ. If anything, I say that Vasquez's win is better, even though he was behind when he knocked out Carl, because Daniels was a title holder and had been on the world scene when he fought JCV, whereas with Norris it was his first major step up.

By the way, I do pick Terrible Terry to win this. I'm just saying that the fight would have been anything but easy though, as Julio Cesar Vasquez was a very good fighter. Much better than Castro, I might add.

pernell was a small fighter at lightweight, at welter he was almost always the smaller fighter, going to 154 is a joke. he handled a much bigger man pretty well and pawned him on occasion...and said that he couldnt move at light middle which made alot of sense.

anyways, i think norris would win. we all know the stats but the main advantage of JCV is that he was a strong aggressive fighter, but terry was a great inside fighter and manhandled anyone who came to him.

I was pretty active in the scene back in this time. The stuff I heard, granted second hand, was that Norris' handlers specifically did not want Vasquez. He was a very dangerous fighter. He gave the worst asskicking ever to Winky Wright. And Winky was not THAT green. He was 23, had fought some decent fighters. I had already known of his for half a dozen years at this point. Never again was he beaten so thoroughly.

Unfortunately Norris had some missed opportunity's taken away from him on the eve of some big fight's... both times. (Taking "Tune-Up's")

Upset against Brown & Then Petway.
With potential fights against everyone from Whitaker/JCC to Jones Jr.

Wasn't Norris busy blowing fights to Luis Santana at the time that this fight would've been ideal?
