Would have been nice to see two cat quick reflexes fighters battle it out.:bbb How would you have seen the end result?
Floyd and Zab was a close fight indeed (counting that knockdown) . But saying life and death usually means there can be a case made for either fighter getting the victory . Floyd won closely, but clearly . A very frustrated Zab had no answer after Floyd adapted .
i'm guessing the thread starter is too young to know that these guys careers barely overlapped. floyd was just starting as pernell was winding down. floyd was fighter of the year in '98...pernell got beat by trinidad in '99....they were about 17lbs apart. it wasn't feasible. i've heard stories of them sparring though...and that floyd got the better of a near the end pernell. it happens.
Life & death with Zab ? Really ? I never remember that ... I remember Zab in the 1st 3 rounds dominating the pace and touching Money up while being measured.. But life & death ? Money's glove touched the floor but he was never hurt... I think the life & death part was when Zab was getting his ass starched so bad that he went to the low blows... The only life & death situation in that fight was when Roger was going after Zab... Oh, and his dumbass DAD too.....
Up in Virginia and Pernell couldn't find him.. I think Don Hale got him in that camp. He was also at one of Don Kings Ohio camps as a teen amateur...
I didn't even have it close. 116-112, 115-112 I think with the knock down. I don't remember what round the knockdown occurred but definitely too quick for the ref to see, he doesn't have instant replay.
