Why didn't Silva touch gloves with Henderson?

Discussion in 'MMA Forum' started by concrete sledge, Mar 3, 2008.

  1. Do they not like eachother? Was something bad said by Henderson shortly before the fight? For such a classy guy, I found it strange that Silva didn't touch gloves at the start of the first round?

I also found it strange that he took the time to praise Franklin the way he did and said the "the real champion I have fought is Rich Franklin".

I think that he was just in fight mode. He is a very classy guy, but he was just ready to fight. He did get down on his knees in front of him after the fight. When the fights starts, he is all business and is completely focused.

  3. I think you're right. He was just so focused that he just kinda spaced it out.

Silva is a very classy guy and has been very careful to appear as such in front of the american fans. I think being that it was him and he is always a perfect sportsman, two things like that is definetly a sign that he was upset or does indeed dislike Hendo. Hendo pretty much downplayed Silvas domination in the division to careful matchmaking or, just plain out favorable stylistic matchups. He also said that BJ Penn and GSP oughta be considered above him on the P4P list. Not the worst things in the world, but unnecessary. I think the fact that Silva didn't touch gloves and went out of his way to point out that he didn't consider Hendo a champion is definitely an indication that Silva was effected by his talking, or maybe he just doesn't like him. Could be something Hendo said in the past about his teamates or such.

Or it could be the fact that Hendo has spent the past year making rather unprofessional comments about Brazilian fighters. He's hated on most of them as being roided up guys who fight weak competition. If Anderson Silva said all American fighters are roided up nobodies before he fought Rich Franklin, I don't think Rich would have been very friendly with him, just as Anderson was with Hendo.

Sounds about right. That and Anderson doesnt seem like a guy who likes to trash talk and thats basically what Hendersons been doing for awhile now talking **** like you said about basically all Brazlian fighters,Randy Couture,Anderson himself and etc. Anderson had probablly set in his mind that he hated Henderson and wanted to hurt him during the fight. Afterwards I do believe he showed class though and what he said about Rich being the true Champ I have no problem with because although Rich and Hendo are both great Champs Rich is a guy who never has anything bad to say about anyone before or after. I remember when Nate Quarry said something like I got heavy hands and Rich has a weak chin all Rich said was well im sorry Nates making that mentally mistake. Rich Franklin is a class fighter and a great fighter I kinda hope Silva goes up to 205 so ich can dominate 185 agian or have a fight with Henderson.

Whats up with you guys?...this is abc..Hendo talked alot of trash..Silva then smashed him in the mouth. When youre facing Silva..beware of trash talk ala Leben..hes so good that he can actually prolong your agony ala Penn/Pulver

True, when you listen to him in the preview its like somewhere in between an full out insult and sarcasm. I was actually surprised coz Hendo is pretty much a stand up guy.

I think Silva is always a true pro..saying nothing but "it will be a good match" and "may the best man win". and when someone becomes abrasive ala leben, he doesnt like that. Im not sure also if the fact of teh bitter feud between Hendo and Bustamente had something to do with it. Remember that the Nogs were w/ BTT for a while

Agreed. Silva was focused on the fight ahead of him. Marvin Hagler was the same way before fights. There is always time to shake hands afterwards.

I noticed that one too..probably he knew hendo wasn't intimidated by him. Unlike in the franklin fight where rich was obviously not that confident..

It just shows how loyal silva is to ufc now. its probably his way of showing dana and d ufc fans how grateful he is for being in the ufc. His statement clearly discredits hendo's being a pride champ and no way should it be recognized in the same breath as that of being a ufc champ.

then again, its just my opinion and observation... no hendo or silva hate here. just want to make it clear folks.;)

I didnt really understand that comment or why he said that. I think he just has more respect for Rich than Hendo.
