Why didn't Ward fight a more Kovalev-like opponent?

This Brand guy moves around the ring like a baby giraffe. Why not find a guy who at least fights a little similar to how Kovalev fights? I don't get the thought process behind it.

because the only thing he wants is to KO someone, so he can hype himself up to the casuals. that's it

It's incredibly common for top fighters to take super easy fights from time to time, and I've never understood it.

It's like the Warriors insisting on facing some high school basketball team, and even playing it on television like it's a serious match up.

It's not progressing your career. It's just not.

I can only assume it's just about the money.

You mean the amount of the purse total and how little Brand was willing to accept? That makes sense. Still, if I were Ward, I would want to fight someone that would better prepare me for the toughest fight of my career--which is exactly what Kovalev will be.

All I know is that CST80 called Brook a "slick fighter" and that's some pure bull****.

You can say one fighter is more like another, but they're still not that fighter.

Maybe he just didn't want to waste his time and energy with another big fight.

But yes, I think it was about the money.

My best guess is that if both Kovalev and Ward come into the fight blind Ward has the advantage with his ring IQ and trusts in his ability to adapt. Whereas as giving Kovalev some tape to study tips the scales more into kovalev's favor. Fight cans on t.v. and spar is ones who fight like Kovalev.

Because he's wasted years of his career, wasn't truly happy how he fared against Barrera and still doesn't know if he's as good as before.
I'm not having a pop at Ward as I'm a fan but I thought this to be obvious?
