How had Bute not earned a shot? Had Ward earned a shot at Kessler?
Bute was more accomplished than any other SMW, Ward hadnt fought, had, had more world title fights, had looked more impressive against common opposition, had more wins over top 10 comp even if it wasnt Kessler or Froch.
Bute was the top fight for Ward at SMW and would have been a bigger fight than Dawson who he fought.

Tell me with your mindset, did Rodriguez earn the fight :patsch.

We dont know if Ward could have travelled like Bute either and Ward had not faced an undefeated world champ with the movement and power of Bute. I doubt Ward due to styles would have done what Froch did.

Ward was worried about Bute's left uppercut ( Boone dropped Ward with an uppercut ), speed, southpaw style and about Bute's athleticism. Anyway styles make fights and I think Bute would've been a difficult opponent for Ward. Don't forget that Bute beat pretty convincingly Bika and KTFO Miranda, 2 fighters that Ward beat too but not so spectacular as Bute did.

After the S6, Froch fought Bute at the very end of May
Ward fought Dawson only a couple of months after. It was hardly 6 months apart

Thats right its styles and Bute when undefeated, I think before Froch would have beaten Ward, now I dont think so

Given the all clear to train, there is still a recovery period to go along with that and it was around that time when the Bute v Froch fight was announced.
So Bute and his team were obviously negotiating with Froch instead od focusing on Ward.

Bute wanted no part of Ward and thats why they signed on for back to back fights with Froch for two easy pay days thinking he was past it and there for the taking.

Bute amounted to nothing. His tream new it and were just looking to match him up with with winnable fights.

Ward's hand healed in Feb 2012, he fought Dawson in Sept of 2012 so that's actually a 7 month gap between the hand healing and him fighting Dawson.

No reason why Ward couldn't have negotiated a fight with Bute while he waited for his hand to recover and been the fighter to beat Bute instead of Froch.

I just checked and you are right the Froch/Bute fight was confirmed in Jan 2012 so it does look like Bute was negotiating with Froch. Though I think it's pretty normal for fighters to explore numerous opponents when looking for a fight and Ward's injury and attitude towards a proposed fight was probably the deciding factor in Bute signing the fight with Froch.

So the Bute fight was probably never likely under the circumstances. If Ward had shown more interest in a fight Bute may or may not have been willing to wait and taken easier fights while waiting for Ward to recover. We will never know.

Beating Bute would have added nothing to Wards legacy.

Lets say Ward beat him, and the Bute went on to get beaten by Froch and Pascal afterwards....

Wouldnt you people just be saying "Ward beat on overhyped bum"?

You think Ward planned his injuries and promotional problems to avoid big fights???

no, but i think he wanted nothing to do with bute. styles make fights. ward doesn't have the power to bother bute. bute was quick, and powerful. bute is broken mentally now.

Ward said Bute needed to fight a top fighter first,to prove himself.

    Bute fought a top fighter.

Lets just say, he didnt prove himself

No I wouldn't, because I dont say "Froch beat an overhyped bum". I accept that Bute was hyped to be of a level above what he was actually capable of but he was a legitimate champion and one of the division's most highly rated fighters post-Calzaghe.

Beating him would have added the last big name Super Middleweight of the era to Ward's resume and allowed him to pick up the IBF Title. It would not have biggest win but it would have been a significant one.
