I've noticed from Internet and TV that people often overrate Boxers from their own country, race or ethnicity. I know it's Human nature. But this is extremly common among Boxing fans. Unlike in Soccer, Tennis, Football and Basketball where it is well established among fans of all nations and races, who the best players in History are.

    what the **** is soccer?

Americans are actually worst for it, the biggest hype-job of all time who achieved so little was American (when I say little, i mean nothing). Freddy Adu the football saviour of the USA the future Pele, the next maradonna, the man to take the premier league by storm when he turns 18.......23 years old plays for Philadelphia. scored about 27 goals in 6 years.

I remember Adu so clearly he was meant to be the ****. Football manager 2005 gave him some of the best stats I'd ever seen for a 17 year old so I guess the hype started to infect us over here. Adu has now faded into obscurity and shall remain in the mire of mediocrity. Reminds me of Jeff Lacy.

Also another solid point by Arran... Soccer?

    GTFO

As for boxers well people just want to support people who live near to them as they can identify with them best, no more no less even if this means overlooking some of their deficiencies

i'll freely admit we hype our fighters, but the yanks do it to, the advantage they have is they stay at home and get all the home comforts which means the victory is more likely to fall to them. If every american boxer had to face a british boxer in the UK for the next 10 years I bet statistically it would swing hugely in our favour the way it is in americans favour now, having home advantage all the time.

So yeah we all over-rate our own fighters...Lacy was mini mike tyson for example

    but never

    ever

    ever

will a sportsman be as over-rated as Freddy Adu and achieve so little.

its because the media hypes them up .... and 90% of the people who carry the hype are not into boxing at all.. so when they hear "world champion danny green" they dont realise there are multiple world championships and that doesent make him undisputed champion and the best in his division

i wish people dident know i was a boxing fan im getting sick and tired of explaining how pathetic the IBO title is

A lot of fans want to believe "their" boxer is good or even the best, even if there's lots of evidence on the contrary.

It gets pretty annoying when fightfans are starting to hype up bumbashers like Wilder or Cleverly, or believe a half proven boxer has super human powers and KO's the reigning champ without breaking a sweat in their minds.

But for the rest it's just kinda funny.

Why? Just plain human nature, even if many don't want to admit it.

And yes, boxing fans seem to be the worst.
