This is one of the big problems in boxing, how every fight is for some bull**** belt so everyone ends up a winner. I get why the sanctioning bodies do this because they make money from it, but why do boxers even care about belts like the diamond belt or interim title. I read soto will be fighting for the wbc 140 interim title, I hope suleiman ****s off soon with his corrupt ways but how does soto benefit from this? nobody recognizes these titles as the real thing so there wont be much credit and he needs to pay a sanctioning fee as well, why give up a part of your hard earned money for nothing? same way martinez and bradley should have told the wbc to **** off with there diamond and champion in reces titles only to get money from them when they fight.
Stumped if I know, its all boxing bull****. How about the WBA's Super Champion belt, it pretty much makes the WBA title worthless.
I think basically because there is no money in boxing. The only way some people can make a living is by attaining one of these alphabet trinkets and making themselves more marketable with the big names
But that doesnt help anyone in the long run, at this point more and more people will see what a joke the sanctioning bodies are, one champ per division is what helps boxing and the more people watch the better everyone does, at this rate we will end up with so many joke titles that people will only acknowledge the ring title at some point as the real champion. the sanctioning bodies really need to be controlled otherwise it will never work out. Suleiman is a complete joke and he can basically get away with everything. Eventually there will be a point where having a silver belt wont mean anything and people wont be tuning in for it as well.
Well, a lot of people were complaining about raising kids without learning them who's a winner and who's a loser at sport competitions. Kid who finished 7th gets a trophy also, and sometimes even when finishing last or not at all. Of course that's not quite in line with the "real world" So the sanctioning bodies thought "we have to find a solution for that" and knew they couldn't change the way kids were brought up, but could make trophies for virtually every boxer around. So actually they are doing society a favour if you think about it :yep :drink
Well in the case of Martinez, I'm pretty sure he still pays lip service to the WBC because his dumb emeritus/diamond titles are the only things that make the one money fight available to him remotely possible. I doubt Bradley will be in a rush though to pay the WBC another cent since this is the second time in two years they've stripped him with little justification.
Marketing dollars. Which one sounds better to the casual fan, Boxer X vs Boxer Z for down at the Civic Center. Or WBO Interim Champion Boxer X vs Boxer Z for the World Title, down at the civic center. For guys not named Mayweather, Pacquiao, or even Andre Ward and Carl Froch. A belt means marketing dollars, it means that a casual fan will see that and say, hey that sounds like an important fight lets go see it. Also, add in the fact that a lot of young guys want to be in the HOF one day, and you see why they would bother with these belts.
