I look at boxers in the 80's and 90's and almost all of them never stop throwing big punches for the whole 12 rounds of the fight. With so much modern nutrition, fitness training techniques and medical science, i find it riddiculous to see boxers gassing after 1-2 rounds of heavy activity as we see with David Price and Anthony Joshua. Wilder has better stamina and out put then these jokers.
Because they use more drugs and they don’t use them properly. They use anabolic drugs that have detrimental impact on cardiovascular endurance. They should be blood doping if they are going to cheat. So many fighters these days are overmuscled.
I agree that they’re over muscled as a result of day before weigh-ins, which I believe hurts fighter safety more than it contributes to it.
I kinda agree. Everything was wide open back then in all sports if you had the know how. Zero scrutiny.
These guys have poor stamina because of their excessive weight plain and simple. There were tons of guys who were between 6'2 and 6'6 back in the 70's 80's and 90's. But most of these guys expecially back in the 70's were in great shape. You didn't see every fighter walking about weighed over 260 pounds. This isn't football, so you don't need all of that bulk or fat. You will frequently see guys back in the day come into the bout lighter than was necessary. You will see guys Norton size who was 6'3 but came into the ring weighing around 220. Foreman weighed 230 as a 19 year amateur but choose to come into the ring lighter most of his fighters. Guys like Al Jones was 6'6 but usually came into the ring at 230. Now we have AJ a guy who should probably weigh in his 220s weigh 250 for most of his fights. Guys like Jarrell Miller being 6'4 and close to 300. Tons of other 6'3-6'4 guys like Dillian Whyte and Joseph Parker between 240 plus when they should be lighter.
GMO's & other artificial BS have fighter's weaker. Ray Robinson beats the brakes off Garcia, Thurman & Spence in a six month time frame
Use of PEDs Back in the 80s and early 90s it was practically legal, and the anything goes mentally meant you could come into fights with a full tank of energy These days although many are still on them they are not getting the most out of them, as they need to avoid detection and are not using the correct ones.
good thread! it does make one think. athletes probably got away a bit more in the past using p.e.d.'s and other things like speed. but training does come into it. while fighting as a heavy, james toney primarily trained by sparring if i remember. getting his body comfortable for throwing many punches in a round.
As stated above, you have to wonder just how many fighters were on PEDs back then(whenever). It was a lot easier, say in the 80s, than it is now. And a lot of those guys were ****ing SHREDDED!!!(80´s and so). Weight management through PEDs had to play a big role for a long time. (As is the case now with a big part of failed PEDs relating to weight cut drugs)
Idiots.. Hkw about boxers from the late 1800s and early 1900s who fought 20+ rounds? Were they on PEDs too? I don't think so. Fighters today rely too much on having muscle mass. Fighters from the 90s and older were skinnier, fought more frequently, and trained for endurance not muscle mass. Look at Tito Trinidad for example, his work out consisted of running 20+ miles.
Who knows and who cares. As i said I don't watch Anime. My nephew who created this account for me picked this name.
