Why Do Boxers Make Sounds When They Punch...???

Isn't it a waste of energy to do so? Or does it help a fighter pace himself? I think it would be unnerving if my opponent made a loud sound every time he threw a punch.

    :huh

To get oxygen into the body to release energy and thus punch more explosively /thread

Probably the same reason tennis players grunt when they hit the ball. To be as annoying as possible.

releasing your breath means you can extend your body. hold your breath and turn your shoulders 90 degrees you will start to be in discomfort. so by breathing out you can get that extra bit of reach. the sounds are an amateur trick. you make a sound then land something it looks like you have landed something pretty solid
........but serious the peterson "bop" is a bit of a joke

When I first started, I was told to do it to get me in the habit of making sure you keep breathing while your throwing punches because it keeps you from tiring out. It eventually just becomes a habit. Trying going a full round of shadow boxing without breathing when you punch and let me know how tired you get.

How about you go join a boxing gym tomorrow so that you can not come on here asking stupid questions. I PITY THE FOOL. Oh yeah, ask your girl why cause I seem to get plenty of energy when I be making them noises with her while she calls me champ soul pole!
