Why would take a fight with little time to train and have to lose quite a bit of weight in a short span then enter the fight completely weight drained and out of shape. It just seems absurd to me.
well if you suck anyways then why not? most ppl that take a fight on short notice is boxers not that good. Now if you were traning for a fight and your fight fell out, and another fight happened 2-3 weeks later, still in shape so that wouldnt be that bad on short notice.
:dead Because it's ****ing difficult for fighters to get decent fights unless they are on the teet of a major promoter. The only way they can get a shot a protected fighter is if the promoters are desperate to save a show, hence late call ins. Most boxers don't have stage managed careers, doesn't mean they 'suck'.
Do the math: you're a fighter with no opportunities, no money behind you, nothing but crap fights for crap money in some dump in whereverville. Then ESPN calls and offers you a chance to fight on tv a week later against a 'prospect', for three times the money you've been making, with the chance of making a name for yourself, getting management, more fights on tv. It's simple, really. Think, Rocky Balboa.
It's really not at all like good actors taking roles in sh*t movies. Good actors take roles in sh*t movies purely for the big paycheck. They don't need the work (ie., DeNiro, Pacino and Nicholson certainly don't need to act in garbage films to pay the rent. They're loaded already). The boxers who take fights on short notice do so because they are desperate. They have No opportunities otherwise.
