Why do boxing fans act like a loss means you are tarnished forever?

easier to promote whipping ass and promoting "cant be fukked with" mentality with no losses than it is to promote the figher with several or 1.

kind of like seeing someone getting his ass whooped then the next time you see him he's saying he can't be whipped....doesnt add up.

we all know the stigma of losing a street fight....well magnify it by 100 probaly when losing nationaly...it just fukks up a lot of credibility.

same reason some fans act like never losing means you are the best when you don't face the best there is a big group of them and their collective nickname rhymes with the word "homo"

Alexis Arguello and Marvin Haglar both had losses before they so much as sniffed a world title, and neither won his fist title fight.

Boxing fans are brutal. If you're not an ATG champ, then you're ****. There isn't much in between. I'd love to see more respect for journeyman, tough contenders, or anyone who's held a title, even briefly. The only fighters I don't respect are guys who take dives for a pay day.

Whenever that gets you down, just think of the all the 0s that Hopkins has taken "or should've taken" with his 5 losses.

Almost all the great fighters had losses because they were not afraid to fight other great fighters. They wanted to test their skills. Sometimes it works out that no one is around at the same time and you get a career undefeated fighter. We're lucky Ali had Frazier to show how tough Ali really was. And we're lucky Ali did not fight Frazier a couple of years earlier (when he was banned) because he might have out-sped Frazier and maybe no trilogy.

Tyson recently indicated he was not super upset about having lost to Douglas, even at the time, because he knew this fact from his vast knowledge of boxing history.

Those are not fans those are people that know nothing about boxing their just haters, their might be 20 percent of the people that come on ESB that really follow and have knowledge of boxing and the fighters.

  10. I think the best people with losses usually avenged them or won against the opponent they lost to previously.
Hagler, Hearns, Duran and Leonard were all incredible fighters and there wins and losses are all mashed up.
Ali and Frazier, lost one, won two and after both are probably consider ATG's. But these are top level competitors.
Khan losing to Prescott was pretty poor but in a rare case he seems to have evolved from it.

Boxing's fan base is unforgiving. I heard Mike Tyson say, that's where the MMA has us beat. That a loss with their fighter's doesn't seem to damgage their reputation or marketing power as it does for boxers.

Boxing fans need to lighten up on the loser of a high level competitive fight. :deal

I agree that a loss doesnt mean the end, and boxers can improve from them.

But some fighters make a habit of fighting guys coming off of brutal losses or really bad performances, when said fighters dont really deserve the chance at that point. And that degrades the sport.

Because most boxing fans are stupid... That's my answer.

A guy like Paul Williams is still a really really good fighter with good wins. Most people would lose to Martinez and he avanged the Quintana loss.

David Lemieux is another one. He's really really young and lost to a good veteran after almost KOing him. Nothing to be ashamed of. The guy still packs one hell of a punch.

On the other hand, you have guys like Alexander. I never liked the way he boxes, so seeing him lose like he did... Hard not to be a hater.
