Why do "boxing fans" discredit the sport and the fighters so often?

I did, I said Pac shits on Floyd's resume. Doesnt it? atsch

 

Pac has a good resume but his opponents in the last couple of years have been dubious and under advantageous circumstances.

What's your opinion on that? Try and answer without mentioning Floyd as a comparison for a change.

You're right on both counts man. It never ceases to drive me mad that the media, all the way down to the announcers, drives down the image of the sport and its reputation. The horrible coverage filters right on through to the average fan who listens to it.

It makes me wonder how many people genuinely even like this sport here, and how many just don't give a damn because they're bitter, jaded, just want to see guys beat the **** out of each other, or have no passion for their own work. I mean, it's to the point where fighters who are top 10 in their weight class (in the world!) are discredited to nearly bum status. It's ridiculous.

If a fighter loses 1 fight, he's a fraud or a hypejob. Nobody can do anything right in the Boxing World, Don't get me wrong, i'll admit i've criticised Boxer's, Fight's, etc in the past... But i have respect for a fighter wether he's on the level Floyd, Manny, Sergio, etc are at, or wether he's an Amateur fighter starting out.

A lot of people on here don't have that

 

Maybe that was too strong, but Mosley - as an example - should never have been an opponent for the number 1 P4P fighter off the back of losing convincingly and drawing in an underwhelming fight. Both within the previous year.

 

Who do you want, Bradley, Ortiz, Maidana? C'mon man Morales beats these pretenders they're not even in Pac's bitches league.

 

I think a lot of it has to do with how Boxing is handled. There is a lot of bull**** that goes on that reflects badly on the sport in general, and the media and fans pick up on that and run with it. Dodgy decisions, Fighters ducking opponents, Promotion companies taking advantage of fighters and fans. There's a lot of negativity in the sport, in general, and that's bound to be perpetuated by fans.

Just because the fans and media choose not to be quiet about it doesnt mean we hate the sport. There's just too much BS going on for us not to call them out on it.

 

everyone is a bum. Everyone sucks, but their favourite fighter. Boxing is the most irritating sport to follow.

Everyone has an opinion, the casual fans are the worst though.They know **** all about boxing.

 

God forbid someone gives both Floyd and Pacquiao their due credit. Such people don't exist so he's GOT to be lying about liking one of them. :nono

 

It's much worse for certain fighters than it is for others. Some fighters catch hell no matter what they do. Others get hyped no matter what they do. For example, Pavlik is a fighter who rarely gets credit for anything. To date he is the only fighter who ever won a decision over Jermain Taylor. Hopkins couldn't do it. Winky couldn't do it. Pavlik did, and yet people insist that he looked like **** in the fight.

Sergio Martinez can do no wrong. He has become a god-like figure for winning a competitive fight with Pavlik and stopping Paul Williams. PDub was always a KO waiting to happen, and Pavlik's circumstances leading up to the fight were so horrendous that Sergio's win is questionable.

The same fans who spent years insisting that Pavlik was a one dimensional plodder, now tell us Martinez is P4P #2 for beating KP. There is no logic or reason involved.

 

The fans calling BS about the dirty aspects of the sport is a good thing...but the media just isn't doing the same. They're guilty of favoritism, sweeping robberies under the rug, and nepotism with the promoters and networks. Unfortunately boxing just isn't a big enough issues for any medium outside of specialized sites like ESB to do anything but re-print the company line.

As fans, we do need to not be such fickle bitches. On one hand, we want the toughest, best fights, and on the other, we crucify a guy for losing and a world-class guy who's practiced the craft for 10-20 years (or 200 in Hopkins' case) gets treated like yesterday's news. Fighters see that, and it affects them. That's one reason Floyd's so paranoid about losing his zero.
