Why do boxing fans find it hard to accept that Tyson was victim of long count

Fans find it "hard to accept" because Tyson wasn't a victim of anything.

Douglas was watching the referee, and got up at the last second to take as much time as he could get. Had the referee picked up the count sooner, Douglas would have gotten up sooner. Simple as that.

 

douglas did KO tyson. and for a longer period. but i agree being the first is important. if it was a long count it was a miss by a really tiny period

 

Yeah, it sure didn't seem like much of a difference to me really. I think that Moran's count was fair.

 

The count was very much a borderline case. Poetic justice,though. Douglas more than deserved his victory that night. If he'd come in against Holyfield in the same state of mind and body that he displayed in Tokyo,we'd have seen a great bout.

 

The counts were exactly the same. And Tyson was just that bit slower getting up.
I remember that coming out at the time.

Perhaps the referee was in error, and the counts were too slow, I dont know. Nor do I care. It happens all the time.
