He pays his average fighter the same purse they would make fighting on an episode of ESPN's Friday Night Fights, which pays it's journeymen boxers $1,500-2,000. That was fine when they were on a channel without a lot of viewers like Spike, but Fox has an average Nielsen rating ten times that so it's commercials are worth ten times as much. ESPN pays it's fighters what it pays because their viewership is between 450,000-600,000. But the UFC on Fox pulls 2-3 million viewers. You are seeing four times the viewership on a major channel but you aren't seeing 4 times the purse money going to fighters. The going rate may be the going rate for that level of talent, but Dana White and the Fertitta Brothers just pocketing a 100 million dollars of FOX money without giving any bump to the lower level guys reeks of pure greed. Some people do seem to be well paid, but only the stars. Jon Jones gets paid. Anderson Silva gets paid. George St. Pierre got paid. And you can bet that Joe Rogan gets paid. If he needs you, he pays you, and everyone else is expendable. The thing is, if the UFC only lets the best fighters into it's ranks, and all 200+ fighters in the organization are elite. Why isn't he paying them like they are elite?
I didn't know I was white either. I've must have been color blind all of these years. Man I always thought I was black lol. For real though MMA takes a lot of dedication and skill. I'm thinking about trying it.
I still laugh when some dumb **** still says MMA if taking over boxing :rofl They were saying that 10 years ago when UFC was becoming huge, and it still hasnt even come close to surpassing boxing. Just look at the PPV history of the two and the media when it comes to a big fight in boxing and a big fight in UFC
Personally I enjoy Boxing, MMA, and even kickboxing. I can't stand the majority of MMA fans though, but there is a fair amount of crossover fans who aren't ignorant when it comes to boxing and know their stuff.
I have tried to watch UFC, and related styles but i just do not care for it. I don't like the way fighters are allowed to continue when the other guy goes down, etc. It's just not to my liking. I'll stick with boxing.
I think that boxing fans got turned off when ufc was originally promoting their brand. Ufc would say "it's not boxing it's ufc" or "boxing is dead." Dana white and that comedian from that news radio show still do this. Apart from that maybe some fans became insecure when they started seeing mma sections pop up in their favorite boxing forum. Whatever the case, speaking for myself, I don't really like grappling, but I like defensive fight. As a result I didn't really like most ufc/mma fighters until is saw Machida. His stick and move style made me his fan for life.
Because it sucks, basically. It's boring to watch a couple of guys roll around on the ground, and so they try to make it interesting to their audience of young males by filling it with the same over-the-top macho posturing they had in WWE. The result is just dreadful. And then their testosterone-fueled fanbase tries to make like this crap is better than boxing. It isn't.:-(
Machida lost. Don't know if I'll keep watching mma once he's gone. Maybe if I'm lucky someone else can come in with that stick and move machida style and have success.
I respect MMGay I mean MMA but Dana white and other fighters are always taking subliminal shots at boxing so **** em
Yeah, these clowns are always talking **** about boxing. Probably because they know that watching a couple of guys roll around on the ground is pretty dull.:yep
I always thought White disrespected boxing in order to get cheap publicity. Mayweather announces he's fighting Maidana and some MMA chix called Rhonda tries to get in on a bit of free publicity by saying she would beat Mayweather. What's the result? Lots of headlines and chat on the forums. As well as very few people wanting to watch two men in tight shorts rolling around on the floor no sane person is interested in watching ground and pound, sick barbaric ****. At least Tyson Fury turned the tables when he offered to beat the crap out of Cain Velazquez, Fury is just as good as Dana when it comes to riding on somebody else's coat tails.
It's more of the other way around really. I don't mind it, I'm indifferent towards it. My only issue is the mongoloids who like MMA who come to boxing vids just to slander the craft or Those who think James Toney vs Randy Couture is a valid example of which is the better sport.
I agree with Ali Frazier...I feel the other way round too...MMA fans think that it is the ultimate sport, but don't see the tactical factor behind some high class boxing...to me MMA is just brawling most of the times
