In all the years I've been on ESB, one thing that has always astounded me is how fans of certain fighters will defend their greed. When a fight doesn't happen because one man is asking for too much, fans automatically jump to their defence. If a boxer wants to charge massive amounts of money for tickets to bad fights, people defend that. There are many things that hurt boxing which fans defend.

Why? Boxing fans are the ones who suffer from this. Whether they are paying extortionate amounts for poor fights or not being given the bouts they want to see, ultimately, the people who suffer most are the ones who defend their fighter the most. Not only that, but by refusing to condemn their bull****, all these fans are doing is ensuring that it will happen time and time again.

It's pathetic. I'm a fan of guys like Froch, Mares, Marquez, Rios, Cotto, Katsidis etc., because these are guys who will fight anyone and that's the way the sport should be. They shouldn't hide behind dollar signs and if they do, fans shouldn't defend that. It's bull****.

This should be a sport of warriors who want to prove they're the best. Now it seems that whenever a fighter becomes a huge name, they instantly start to rip fans off. The worst thing is, they can get away with it because their biggest fans allow them to.

    I made sure I didn't mention the "M" or "P" words.

  4. This is why I love Germany being the new home of boxing where all the World's biggest fights take place. Fights on free to air television and fight tickets for the same price as those to a night club, I love it. America take note.

They try to defend their heroes like they're family.

Just look at Butes extreme fans over the past four years.

Not sure but I do understand if two unknown fighters choose to avoid each other until they both get more recognition like in the case of Pirog vs Golovkin.

Understand where you're coming from but you have unrealistic expectations. Some of the names you listed aren't exactly easy to negotiate with and that is really self explanatory. The others fell short of the pinnacle and/or are still chasing so you're not really comparing apples to apples.

Have you ever been in a position of leverage in your life, especially in business? If I have five job offers, I am going to try to get as much as I can and do what's best for me and my career. Because these guys are fighters, it's like you expect them to have the UFC mindset and get their brains beat in for peanuts. Floyd, Pacquiao, Cotto, etc have reached a point where they can make good money fighting anyone and can control their own destiny and that's something that everyone should strive for.

    Regarding the fighters you listed:

Froch hasn't exactly lit the world on fire recently and still made Bute give in to all his demands to make the fight.

Rios was going to fight a featherweight and hasn't fought elite opposition yet near his own weight class. Imagine if Floyd was going to fight another lightweight? Look at the **** you gave Floyd for coming overweight against Marquez yet you are OK with Bam Bam doing the same thing in his last fight?

Mares is a good fighter but nobody knows who he is.

Marquez wanted 20MM for another Pac fight.

    Katsidis is a punching bag.

All of the guys you listed are warriors because they have no other choice.

Time to look at things from a different perspective.

They're both ~30 years old - they should fight someone of note at some point. Too bad they're as avoided as they are but it is what it is and yet they didn't manage to stage a fight against each other. Nobody to blame but them, really.

I understand fighters chasing the money and that's fine. It might not be what I personally want to see but I'd be a hypocrite to criticize them for that as I'd do the same in their shoes.

My problem is with the fans who support those decisions. Why does it matter to me what a fighter earns? I don't care. If I'm a Bute fan, I want to see him fighting the best. If I'm a Mayweather fan, I want to see him fighting the best. If I'm a Pacquiao fan, Martinez fan, Cotto fan, Klitschko fan, Marquez fan, all I want from these fighters is them to be in good fights. It doesn't matter to me whether they earn $1 or $1,000,000. It has no bearing on my life.

We all want to see fighters in the best possible bouts. If that isn't happening, fans should show their frustration and anger instead of mindlessly backing their favourite boxers.
