I think Mitchell is a very good fighter and think he will beat Katsidis. Ricky was the King of 140 . . . I do not see Mitchell becoming the king of his division any time soon.

I disagree. If he beats Katsidis (which i think he will as well) then he has a great platform to fight the likes of Soto and Varquez. He should leave JMM alone for a while tho

Who gives a **** about the "average American" we are talking about boxing fans here. American boxing fans saw Hatton beat Kosta and Paulie I am sure, even if it was just on youtube.

Also why was Taylor and Pavlik so highly rated? their combined careers do not touch Joe Calazghe.

Fact is an American boxer can get top 10 p4p from the ring magazine just for winning his first 25 fights - but a British or non-latino/US boxer needs to work twice as hard.

FFS Mosley and Hopkins were top 10 p4p 4 months ago and they would lose to most top level fighters in their divison.

Fact is American boxing fans do not bother with the British fight scence and only take notice when one of the Brit fighters comes over to fight in the states - normally that is at their peak or just post-peak when they are looking to cash in, but for the US boxing fans it is like thier first fight.

not saying it is right or wrong but the top british boxers would wipe the floor with many highly rated US boxers but they dont fight in the states.

I think it's akin to the reason why a notable amount of Mexicans loathed Oscar during his career. Pakistanis and Mexicans (or Latinos in general) aren't too different from one another, as they both hold a lot of pride in their heritage, and like to see their people conduct themselves in a honest way. Many Pakistani lads (and Muslims in general) that I know, simply consider Khan to be a phoney, and see straight through his perceived innocence on camera. Believe me when I tell you this, they were ecstatic during the 54 seconds he was pummelled by Prescott.

I also remember watching the Khan vs Barrera fight at a bar which was full of British Pakistanis, in which a good 80% were gunning for Khan to be decked again. Which brings me to another point, British Pakistanis hold the likes of Barrera, Morales and other Latino fighters, in very high esteem. They’ve taken a liking to their blood and guts approach to fighting, something which they feel Khan will never be able to achieve. So you can imagine their disgust when they saw Khan get a win by cuts, only for him to take joy in beating a legend.

So yeah, that pretty much sums up why many of the Pakistani (Muslim) lads I know, resent him.

I thought it was brilliant to say the least. If Hameed, like RJJ, actually learned the art of boxing it would have been scary! But they realied soley on their natural abilities and when the slowed down a smidgen it caught up to them. If they had some old school training like Bhop, Toney and PBF it would have been scary. (and I never was a RJJ fan)

lennox lewis was tret like a sloppy piece of dog **** on the shoe of america.

he only recieved any kind of credit when he wiped out an entire division to a point where his greatness could not be denied.

american fighters get hyped by HBO and ring magazine to the point where americans are completely brainwashed into the false impression of how great their own fighters are. british fighters recieve no exposure or media coverage in america and most americans don't have a clue about anything that happens outside their own country. :deal

I was one of them who thought lacy would destroy Calzaghe :scaredas: God what a rude surprise.... Do i think Calzaghe cherry picked some of our old ATG... Sure... But he dominated Lacy first to beat Kessler so i think Cal was the best in his division.

Khan has said some stupis stuff in the past. Like before he got KO'd he was saying he could beat Manny Pacquiao in interviews.

That and the ridiculous hype on him. He was on PPV for ****s sake, PPV for fights that had no business being there. Casual fans tended to be ok with this but more hardcore fans were understandably pissed off, it was pretty disgraceful the hype and exploitation of fans.

Then after his stupid comments (he made a few) and all the unwarrented hype he starts blaming people not liking him on pure racism. Granted, there are probably a few that are just racist but most people who dislike Khan dislike him for other reasons and playing the race card just adds to that.

Not saying I hate him, I personally don't really mind him and would actually like to see him do well, those are just some reasons for the animosity. He's an exciting fighter with good skill, lightning hands and a seriously dodgy chin (adding to the excitement!).

Lennox is great. Top 10 HW all time. And a lot agree here..

Hatton and Naseem, had both very padded records in Britain. That made them popular in Britain, but unknown and untested for the rest of the world. And when both stepped it up, they lost big. And Hatton was looking bad before against Collazo. I think we can all agree that both Hatton and Naseem were both heavily overrated by british fans.

Calzaghe has had the same padded record. Maybe in the worst way. When he stepped up against Lacy and later Kessler, he delivered. And i think he was respected then by everyone. Problem i have with Calzaghe is that he didn´t really followed these great performence up with other big fights.

Manfredo Jr. and RJJ were completely bogus fights. Bika was an ok win, but not the fight we all liked to see. Hopkins was a good win, but he didn´t looked good there.

THere were just too many great fighters thru Calzaghe´s career that he didn´t fought.

Yeah, we generally don't give a **** about what happens outside the U.S. You talk about british fighters not getting exposure in America.. Well let me tell you why. Boxers rarely get exposure in America. You ask the average person in America to name three current top boxers and you'd be lucky to get Manny and Floyd out of them. Boxing as a sport is incredibly niche here except from a big billed fight like Mayweather-Mosley. We barely recognize our own boxing talent, let alone anything foreign.

With regards Hamed, that just not true. Look at the rankings at FW at the time, look at the belt holders. Hamed fought and beat them all, he cleaned out the division. Kelley, Robinson, Medina, Johnson, McCullough, Ingle, Soto, Bungu, Vasquez - all world champions - all ranked in the top ten - all beaten by Hamed.

Naz never beat an elite fighter, and his division wasn't stacked with talent, but he did beat the best guys available at the time and his resume is solid.
