Why Do brits Seem To Dislike Andre Ward?

Brits hate him because they view him as a rival to Calzaghe. It's really that simple.

I don't have a problem being a fan of both, myself (even if I hate Ward's Christy bull****).

 

A lot to like about Ward, I have some criticisms as well.

Overall, an excellent fighter who's career I've been following and will continue to follow :good

Don't be so sure about that. Even a gentleman like Arguello put hands on his woman and messed with drugs. Don't trust what you see on 24/7 or what you hear in interviews, unless you know them personally you don't know what these guys are really about.

 

I respect your opinion, but I don't think Abraham or Dawson are on the level of Kessler, Eubank, Reid, Mitchell, Brewer. I think those two belong in the Green and Miranda rung. I think Eubank is a top win.

I would state it as

Calzaghe:

Kessler, Eubank, Lacy, Reid, Mitchell, Brewer

Woodhall, Veit

Ward:

Kessler, Froch

Abraham

Miranda

Dawson, Green

Calzaghe's still has the edge, but Ward is closing in and his resume is already very good with two top wins over Kessler and Froch

Reid- A nobody , never was , never will be.

Woodhall- The above combined together.

 

Reid and Woodhall are both former WBC SMW Champs - Reid should have been a two time champ when he was robbed against Ottke, which if I recall correctly you even made a thread about that!

Veit was a solid top 10 ranked Contender with wins over Charles Brewer and Jurgen Braehmer

Those are 3 solid wins - Wins over Reid and Woodhall are better than wins over Arthur Abraham and 168 drained Chad Dawson who I had to rank below Miranda, because Miranda KO'd him in sparring!


On a side note, bore off popkins you tedious ****. You're fanboyism generates more negativity towards Ward than anything else.

 

The OP failed to separate British posters from CalZombies. Not all Paquiao fans are *******s. Not all Mayweather fans are *****s. Not all Pavlik fans are Midwestern rednecks. And not all Brits are CalZombies. Some of the finest posters we have are British.

Calzaghe had a legitimate claim to #1 all time at 168. Ward already surpassed Calzaghe's accomplishments. He is a genuine threat to Slappy Joe's place in boxing history. The CalZombies cannot tolerate that!

I am a life long boxing fan and former amateur boxer from the Pacific Northwest, and I **** on Ward every chance I get. I've seen nearly all his fights, so of course I have to grant him a grudging respect. However, I am definitely looking forward to the day he gets that dodgy chin cracked. I will NEVER forgive him, or Jack Reiss, for the Kessler fight.

As far as what kind of person Ward is; well, what kind of hypocritical monster calls himself "the son of God," and then demolishes his opponents face with headbutts?

 

Veit never even fought 12 rounds before he fought Calzaghe.

The rest won titles from even lesser zero's than themselves. The division was riddled with bumped up club fighters. Absolute nobody's. Donuts. Like youself.

 

I don't dislike him, he's obviously skilled. He's also a dirty stay-at-home fighter, and I bet his career will now be a succession of cherry-picks now he's out of the Super 6. I'd rather watch Froch or Kessler any day.

 

im an american from the east coast and i wouldnt say im a fan though i appreciate what he did vs Dawson and may just start becoming a fan, the guy is such a phenomenal boxer

i dont mind his persona, i dont like the whole god thing but i like humble athletes, im a klitschka fan and they are about as humble as it gets, though i do like mayweather and mayorga who are very loud

his style can be ugly but i love how he can box and he can brawl, i mean he went toe to toe with Carl Froch and got the best of him

im a big time Bute fan so rooting for him is like a conflict of interest but whats not to like about Ward at this stage

 

I am an Englishman and, to be honest, I am apethetic towards Ward. I recognize he is the best Super Middleweight active now and give him the respect and credit he deserves for that but I dont care enough about him one way or the other to say I like or hate him.

What I do hate is this constant comparison that springs up between Ward and Calzaghe from their fans. Neither fans need to knock either fighter to promote their own.

Ward's era has been easier to make big fights in because there's no Ottke hiding in Germany, no Calzaghe content to wait for people to come to him and no Hopkins or Jones looking for bigger and more lucrative fights in different divisions. As a result most the top Super Middleweights of this era have fought each other within the last few years and Ward emerged at the top of the pile. Thus the claim that Ward's resume is strong is a valid one, because he's beaten pretty much everyone he could.

Calzaghe had a more difficult time of making the big fights - partly because he was content making easy money doing his thing with the WBO for years but partly because of the uncooperativeness of some of his fellow Super Middleweights like Ottke and Beyer, and partly due to a lack of pull in the US (something solved in the Ward-era with the Super 6) - but when he stepped up to face the top quality opposition he triumphed - the Hopkins he beat is still better than most of the guys active now. So the claim from some that I've seen that Calzgahe wasn't even a descent world class fighter is, I think, unsustainable.

So both men deserve props for their achievements, and it annoys me to no end when I see people knock either fighter for petty things.

 

OP is trolling to get a rise out of "Brits". Most respect Andre.
