I know he is a huge name and the Golden Boy and every housewife in the USA wants to have his babies and that he is a great promoter and all that...but that doesn't half explain it, or does it?

Why are fights involving him make 5 times more money than fights involving someone else? Why does Mayweahter make 5 times the money fighting him than Cotto?

    American posters, please explain!:good

I find the guy boring to listen to and he does not hype a fight as well as Don King.

I never really liked his boxing style too much. It always appeared that he was too cautious of getting hit to mix it up and become truly great.

He's white and attractive, this could sell a fight in it self. Oscar also has an exciting fighting style as well, which makes diehard fans buy his fights. Cooney/Holmes was a huge fight back in the early 80's as well, black vs white usually does well sales wise with the average guy who knows little about boxing, aside from one guy looking more like them than the other.

No, I don't...that's why I asked...why is the demand for his product so big compared to other fighters? Is it because he's better at supplying or what?:huh

Better at supplying? Anyway, there are a bunch of reasons. He was an olympic gold medalist with a heart warming story, he's Mexican, he was promoted very well, and he's able to attract female fans. As a result, he's been able to attract a high demand for his product.

America is a very rich, very heavily populated country. If he's fighting in a 15k arena and millions of people want to see him fight, he can jack up the price of the tickets and still sell out the arena. All the extra people coming into the casino willing to spend thousands will allow the promoter to collect a higher site feee. In addtion, all those fans who couldn't get tickets to the event will now be willing to shell out $50 a pop for the PPV. Not to mention all the bars and **** that are paying for a closed circuit telecast.

When you look at these revenue streams and you look at what can be charged because of the inbalance of supply and demand, you can see why his fights generate so much money.

  13. A Gold medal, good looks, and being well spoken, no Ghetto B.S or getting in trouble with the Law, has everything to do with it, he carries himself like a Professional in and out of the ring, a true relief compared to Mike Tyson who is an *******, in and out of the ring,,..
De La Hoya is good for boxing..

Everyone knows him. Simple as that. And when casual fans think DLH, they think he's STILL the prime version they remember.
