to dictate who they fight? Correct me if I'm wrong, but the manager is supposed to setup the fights and the promoter is supposed to promote the event. I was also under the impression that legislation dictates that the promoter and manager have to separate. With that being said, how can a promoter tell a fighter who to fight? We have this Golden Boy/Top Rank fued, by why should that prevent any fights? If a guy like Rigondeux wants to fight Mares, his people should call Mares' people to try to get the fight done. If Arum or Schaefer don't like it, that's their problem. Are these fighters just hiding behind their promoters, or am I missing something here?
They're the marketing machines. In this day and age to get the best fights, being marketable is more important than actually being good. And if you're a promoter who can market fighters well, then they'll be eating out of your hands.
