Why is it that when fighters have open workouts they seem to only tap the heavy bag, usually pretty slowly. They do the same thing when shadow boxing and doing pads. I watch a lot of boxing so I understand that they are WAY faster then their training seems to show. Is their an advantage to training like that or do they just do that so they don't give up any information to their opponents. Manny Pacquiao seems to be the exception since he is frequently going full speed in training footage.
I've wondered the same thing. Guys just going through the motion when they shadow, barely getting their heart rate up. The only thing I can think of is: when a fighter is at the point where his open workouts are a big deal he doesn't have much to prove. And he got there by being smart, in the gym and under the lights. I know as an amateur boxer we work are ass off when we shadow, hit the bag, mits ect
That was what I was wondering as well. I see guys hitting the bag harder and faster at my gym then the top pros(obviously they are not better) I thought perhaps just going through the motions where better, but then I kept thinking back they proabbly just dont want their opponents picking up on tactics. the injury thing is a good one I never thought of that, but you would think they would have some videos of them when they are pre training camp.
Its all just display. It can be distracting for many fighters to have cameras flashing in their face while training. Furthermore its a mental thing, they dont what their opponent to see how ready they are.
because they understand that most people don't know **** about boxing so if they slow it down a bit, they will give them a chance to learn.
