I never understood why fighters cheat. Shane, Margarito, and now Peterson. And even outside of boxing, Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, etc.The "benefits" of cheating are completely outweighed by its disadvantages - getting caught will ruin your career in a heart beat. Also, don't you think fighters feel ashamed knowing that they're cheating? Why do fighters cheat, in your opinion?

I wish that was true in the world of combat sports. But it isn't. Fighters (including MMA) get a slap on the wrist and are able to continue with their career as if nothing happened. Take a look at Margarito. One can make an argument he tried to murder a man. Yet after his suspension is able to return to boxing to earn multi million dollar paydays. Mosley, Vargas, Toney, etc. never had their career ruined by steroid use. Fighters who juice don't destroy their career. They get to keep all their money they "earned."

I had read an article once that claimed to have polled like 100 top athletes with the question that if they could take a PED and win their respective championship (super bowl, World Series, etc) 5 years in a row, but at the end it would kill you...would you do it. And like 90+% said yes. :scaredas:

Getting caught is not likely, because the vast majority don't...

They don't feel ashamed I'm sure, because they know better than we do how many more of their peers are doing it too. It's strictly to keep up.

If you know of 15 people that are on gear, you must assume your opponent is on gear, too... You don't want them having that kind of advantage over you, so you do also.

I think it should be legal. Regulated, but legal. People are going to find ways to do it anyway, so why not make it legal and regulate it?

Along that line of logic, where do you draw the line on performance-enhancing substances?

    Vitamins? Protein powder? Other supplements?

How about having fighters not get IV fluids after weigh-ins? That's a HUGE performance enhancer. They've got dehydrating down to a science. They kill themselves to make a weight they should never weigh, then get hooked up to an IV for hours and rehydrate.

You think these guys drink some gatorate or water and magically get the color in their face back? Sheeeit.

thinking about it, promoters and the like would greatly benefit from having their "performers" (fighters) on PEDs. They will be far more likely to put on an exciting show drawing in more fans and therefore $$$.

Because they want to win really really badly, AND they don't care how.

What amaze me are the delusional people on this board that think that boxing is the cleanest sport while being one of the least controlled. Most of the boxers are on some kind of PEDs IMAO. Unlike other sport in boxing you can get killed and I'm pretty sure most boxers won't deny a little edge in the ring in order to win.

I agree with the first part of your statement. Regulating doping sounds like a good idea at first but it will never be accepted in any sport. Most people are afraid to let their kids box imagine if doping is allowed and encouraged . Another argument is that for example steroids are illegal for the general population why should they be allowed for boxers.
