Mosley avoided Berto in the past?

Mosley vs Berto was scheduled but got cancelled because Berto had to pull out because of the Haiti earthquake.

    What a Moron!!!!!:patsch:lol:

Yes he pulled out, but Mosley fought Mayweather, Mora and now Pacquiao. He could have fought Berto instead of Mora, but he is after the big money which you can understand in this part of his career.

Im not critizsing Mosley for that, Im just saying he will rather fight somebody else but felt he was pushed to fight Berto to get the bigger fights, but when he got them it wasnt worth the risk. Nobody should blame him.

In this modern boxing world where people are so affraid tot ake any risks at all guys who step up to the plate and champs who face challenges over easy fights get a lot of respect.
Cotto and froch are 2 good examples.

"Stepping Up To The Plate" applies to prospects only, IMO. (It's +1)

Once a fighter is already a champion & still fighting "Prospect" like challengers then. (It's -1)
(It's ***** time, Berto comes to mind)

It’s a good question you’ve raised, and one that requires a different answer based on circumstances:

A fighter doesn’t warrant that much praise if he’s an average Joe that’s being given a once in a lifetime opportunity. An example being the recent Khan-McCloskey matchup everyone’s talking about. McCloskey, with all due respect, is being afforded a chance which doesn’t quite match his ability. Facing a fighter with the calibre of Khan will be the highlight of his career, and saying ‘yes’ isn’t exactly a commitment of bravery. It’s to be expected.

But a fighter does warrant praise if he’s taking an unnecessary step up in challenge, and one that encompasses a lot of risk. An example would be the young Saul Alvarez – who has a promising career ahead of him – stepping up to the plate and fighting a Miguel Cotto. He has every reason to bide himself and face Cotto only when he’s ready, but him accepting an extreme rise in challenge like this so soon, is something you must give credit for.

I'm a huge Hopkins fan but he clearly avoided Dawson. I can't blame him though but he did.

Or a superstar giving a very talented up and comer a title shot when he could've taken easier fights. Floyd Mayweather comes to mind.
