When I was training, this was a cardinal rule..never jab to the body..it is the most useless dangerous punch. I'll never understood it. It was my trainers belief and then I thought about it and hes right. This should not be taught and I see tons of fighters do this

    Can anyone explain???

Mayweather does it and he's #1 P4P, that tells you your trainer is a moron.

I'm not a boxer but I think that its a useful weapon if your the bigger, stronger but much slower man in the ring and your opponent is too quick to jab him to the head. If you have the big power you can catch his attention jabbing him to the chest and then follow with something big to the head.

A lot of fighters can do things that's dangerous or considered a bad thing to do if they know they can get away with it. Some fighters can even drop their hands below the waist and get away with it.
Not many athletes stick to the fundementals anymore after they get to a certain level and find what works for them

Vargas threw jabs to Wright's body and at times it forced him to drop his guard ..It can be used effectivly if timed right ..A jab is the only punch that can dictate an entire fight if thrown correctly ..It all depends if you have a snapping jab or a lazy when it comes to effectiveess ..

A jab to the body can be vry effective. It distract your opponent and opens him up top for something else.

Jab is sometimes a setup for the next power shot.
If you jab to the head then opponent automatically rise gloves to block.
If jou jab to the body then sometime he lower the guard and if you
are fast enough you can sucessfully follow to the head ....

Jabbing to the body is okay. If you do jab to the body remember to lower your head in case of a counter right hand.

Yea a fight that just popped into my head is Glenn Johnson/George Jones. In the first round Johnson drops him with first a left jab to the body and when Jones dropped his hands down BOOM! Johnson dropped him with a straight right to the head. Perfect example of how the jab to the body works. :bbb
