Kickboxing is VERY VERY different from boxing. You don't want to jab to the body because a correct jab to the body lowers your whole level. You aren't supposed to just throw a jab to the body from standing upright, it's not a downward punch. You are supposed to lower your whole level and throw the punch straight to the body. In kickboxing, this opens you up to devastating head kicks, because your head is much lower, it is easier to land a great kick. It's not the same.
Yes. It is one of the primary reasons that MMA fighters don't go to the body near as much as boxers. Oh, that and BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO SKILLZ THEY ARE *** LOSERS BLAH BLAH !!11one
El Rey has put it properly and I second everything he said. But in order not to make it that "odd" in your mind, chimba, remember about boxing's basics - art of hitting an opponent from the furthest distance away, exposing the least amount of your body while getting in position to punch with maximum leverage and not getting hit - so if you think calmly you'll see that it doesn't say where you should hit, of course you know where you can't hit ( or shouldn't if you want to be that clean). Sometimes that move comes with your own rhythm and the way you want to control your opponent on the defensive, keeping clear to you, to him and to anyone else that you are doing something and that he isn't, out-boxing, out-manoeuvre, out-wit, out-punch are terms you can use... I like to jab to the body when a guy has a high arm defense and it is as useful and effective as leading to the head, double jabbing to the body and head or jabbing to the body, take a step back and following up to the head with a cross punch, makes me feel in control... I agree with Rickypr18 ( but not so aggressive toward Chimba, we r not here to prove we know best or r we?) that Mayweather masterfully executes that move with fluid movement, clinical precision and composite of nerve.
Your trainer didn't tell you why? You may want to find a new trainer if he is witholding information. The reason is obvious.... Most pro boxer fight flat footed and does not like to bend their knees so when they shoot their jabs to the stomach they get countered by leaving their head wide open. You should always bring your defense with you and bend ur knees so your head is hiding somewhat behind your punch shrinking your target to your opponent. He was probably a flated footed fighter who got nailed shooting punching at his opponent's stomach. It is a good advice if you are not agile, or quick but if you are then it opens a new set of attacks. TL
That's crazy. Watch PBF - Corrales and see what a stick to the body can do. Also listen to Foreman as he explians what that jab to the body does to a fighter.
I think it is a fighters instict to throw different punches they are probably not planned most of the time
well imo jab also has "aiming" functions, so when you jabbed once or twice and you feel the distance you can land a long right hand or something. Also a body jab, still makes guy put his hands a bit down automatically and after that you can get his head.
A quick, well placed jab to the body is a great weapon. It can get an opponent to drop the guard just enough to set up a nice punch to the head.
