This is not to all Floyd fans, but to the ones who keep saying no one deserves to fight him b/c the fight wouldnt earn him that much money.

    WTF!!!

Who cares about how much money he is going to make. Boxing fans just want to see the best possible fight out there. Why should any of us care about how many sales the fight is going to have. I wouldnt care if I was the only person watching the damn fight. As long as it is a good match up, that's all that matters.

Cotto doesnt have drawing power, Williams is too unknown, etc...None is this matters. All that matters is that a fighter has earned his right to fight the champ. Drawing power is a pathetic way to dictate who deserves a shot at the title. Not everyone for the rest of boxing history is going to be outgoing. Fights are paid to fight, not to talk.

Finally, to you Floyd fans who care so much about his money. Think about this situation. True boxing fans know that the best fights to be made are Floyd vs cotto or williams. The casual sports fan doesnt know Cotto or Williams. But, if the fight between floyd and either of those 2 were to be announced, the casual fan would be very curious simply b/c of Cotto's undefeated record and KO ratio and they would be impressed with Paul's undefeated record and size.

Now, let's say Cotto fights williams. If Cotto loses, the fight between him and Floyd wont make any money b/c now the general public will see the blemished record and look at it as another Floyd victory. Now, if williams were to win, floyd fans will say, he still needs to fight Kermit b/c he hasnt done anything to deserve the fight. So let's say Kermit KO's Paul. Remember styles make fights. So we all know Kermit isnt as good as Cotto but he is big enough to KO Paul.

So now, we have Cotto, Paul, and Kermit all with 1 loss on their records. For us true boxing fans, we will still love to see FLoyd fight Cotto or Paul. but to the general public, they will see the loss and think that Cotto and Paul are no true threat and therefore not want to waste their money.

If that happens, Floyds chances of landing another mega fight are slim. Trust me, a rematch with DLH wont be that much. A rematch with hatton may be a lot simply b/c everyone in england will watch. I doubt any americans will watch it. If he were to fight Winky, that wouldnt make much money even though it would be a great fight.

So if anything, Floyd needs to take the fight now b/c you never know if one the top guys might lose that O. The general public only cares about undefeated fighters with high KO rates.

Money May is the face of boxing. He's a perfectionist and very self concious. He cares about what the fans think. He knows the fans want him to fight Cotto, and he knows Cotto is a legit threat. I'm fully confident that once his body heals up he'll give the people another superfight and take away Cotto's "0". Let's be real, Hatton is a good fighter but he has enough flaws where Floyd was able fight him even with an assortment of ailments. He knows he can't get away with that **** against a fighter of Cotto's caliber. You watch, when Floyd get's healthy Mayweather/Cotto will get made.

Fact of the matter is, I have seen that with most of the major fighters fans on this message board as of late. It's not just Mayweather fans.

its not that people care how much money he makes. Its about putting yourself in the fighters shoes to understand his rationalization when picking fights.

Why would Pacquiao face JMM rather than Joan Guzman? Money. As fans we understand that and therefore know he is not ducking Guzman.

Why would Hopkins face Jones rather than Calzaghe? Money.

At the end of the day boxing is a job and people box to get paid.

that is the difference between boxing fans and floyd fans, boxing fans want to see the fight, floyd fans look out for floyd best interest, which benefits them in no way.

I always wondered the same thing. Some of the Floyd fans treat his earnings as a personal victory of theirs. Bizarre. It's like when someone mentioned Ricky Hatton making over $40 million for the fight, instantly there were people who jumped in defensively and made a big deal about him not making more than Floyd.

Cheers for a great post. :good

I know there are many floyd fans that want the fight. It's just aggravating to read people writing that Cotto needs to get his name out more b/c there wont be any PPV buys. That's such a joke.

Did my argument about Floyd possibly missing out on a huge payday make sense though?

ouside of an undefeated Cotto, I dont think Floyd will have a bigger payday. We've already seen his boring ass fight with DLH and Hatton is just a terrible fighter. Cotto is the only great financial choice anyway.

I'm a boxing fan. I have been for 27 years now, and as a fan of the sport care about the athletes involved the sport.
Many of my favorite fighters in the past has ended up damaged from too many hard fights, and most of the time there were others who never put themselves in harms way that made alot of money from their efforts.
And to top it off they still don't get the respect they should get from the so called fans of the sport.
I like to see fighters go on to live outside of the ring.
Floyd Mayweather is a prime example.
What he has done in the ring is nothing short of amazing, and "boxing fans" will still make posts saying he's a runner, coward, and such.
Bottom line is get the money nothing else matters when it's all said and done.

Boxing fans know when a fighter has done enough.
Boxing fans don't want to see guys hang around the sport until they can't stand anymore. Then move on to the next new thing.
